Four Years Ago, September 8th, 2001

Patrick:

"Will you stop looking at my sister, ya eejit?" Hugh bellows for what felt like the hundredth time that lunch period, directed of course to Gibsie, who was more or less in his own world watching his beloved "Claire Bear" eat with her friends at the table across the room, to be fair this world is also populated by the smiling blonde girl, a world for just the two of them, something I would consider a personal hell.

The primary schools had enforced this new thing where, the first Friday of the school year the graduating kids would visit their future secondary schools for the day, they would have a tour, sit in on some of the classes and eat in the canteen before getting on a bus back to their respective schools. Which is the reason Hughie's younger sister is currently in the lunchroom, causing tension at the table.

"Why exactly can't she sit with us? I'd much rather look at her than your ugly face" Gibsie said finally taking his eyes of the little ball of sunshine.

"I already spend too much time with her, and so do you. Also there isn't enough room at our table." Hughie is pointedly not looking at his sister's table, although I suspect it has more to do with the girl sitting beside her.

Without missing a beat, Gibsie responds, "One, it is impossible to spend too much time with her, and two, she can just sit on my lap." You can practically see the steam leave Hughie's ears as he gets up out of his seat abandoning his sandwich and begins chasing Gibsie around the lunch room.

"Claire Bear, help me, he's finally lost it!" Gibsie has made a beeline for Claire's table and has repurposed the small smiley girl as a human shield.

"Hugh! What are you doing?" Claire demands in a slightly amused tone.

Hugh ignores Claire's question and begins yelling at Gibsie again "You leave her alone!" Claire frowns.

"What are you on about? You're the one chasing him around at school" Gibsie remains holding onto Claire's shoulders "He's bloody mental that's what his problem is."

Hugh snaps again "He wanted to invite you over to our table to sit on his lap." Claire blushes at this, turns around and playfully hits his shoulder, Gibsie being the lunatic he is, acts as if it was impressive feat of strength and falls down to the floor causing the students in their table to burst out laughing, well all the girls except for a certain prickly blonde girl who in his antics pulled her down with him.

"How dare you touch me" Lizzie Young practically hisses out, pressing the heel of her boot into his arm that is laying on the ground causing him to wince. Lizzie is visibly distraught and looks to be on a warpath, but before she can say anything else, Hugh speaks up.

"He was just messing around. Gibs just get up, we'll go back to our table." Hugh is using a diplomatic tone, unlike anything I had ever heard him use before Caomhie's Young death.

Gibsie, stubborn to a fault, picks Baby Biggs up, putting her over his shoulder, making sure to protect her modesty by keeping her skirt in place and walks her over to the table in tow with a fuming Hughie.

"If you even think about sitting on his lap, I'll..."

Claire is quick to defend herself "You'll what? Tell Mam?" Hugh flushes but doesn't respond, "Relax, I won't actually, he would need to put a ring on my finger first." This however does not relax Hughie.

As amusing as their antics are, my patience is wearing thin after a whole summer of having to witness some variation of Gibsie saying something to piss Hughie off, Hughie taking the bait, Claire getting involved, Gibsie managing to enrage Lizzie, and Hughie eventually placating her more times than I can count, I've grown somewhat tired of it, at least in large quantities. "Hey, Baby Biggs, I'm leaving, take my seat" to my surprise she looks a little disappointed but takes the seat in between Gibsie and Hughie and I make my way to my one true sanctuary at Tommen.
