Patrick:

I know it may appear like I'm trying to swoop in and be Katie's rebound or something, but that is not what is happening.

I just want to be there for her, we can't be together. Besides I doubt she would even like me like that, and even if she did, I couldn't do that to Hugh.

He has been my best friend for my whole life, he's like a brother to me. Although, I did kiss his other ex girlfriend on two different occasions, but this was completely different.

I know my actions, may not be supporting my innocence at the moment, like dropping dinners at her house to make sure she's eating and following her when she ran off at lunch, and having been actively in love with her for the last four years. Yeah my case isn't looking too good.

But Katie needed a friend right now, and that's what I would be. She didn't seem to want friendship in the other people in our group, but she had yet to kick me out of the music room, or run away, so I took it as a positive sign.

She had a point about us forgiving Hugh, I don't think I could ever completely forsake him for anything he did, but I could definitely punish him for a little while.

"Are you going to be okay? For the rest of the day?"

"Um...Yeah of course." She responds, always okay, always fine.

"Do you need a ride home from school?" I ask, knowing Hugh used to drive her home most days.

She looks hesitant, "I'm supposed to babysit AJ today, Aoife was supposed to drive me but her and Joey stayed home with him. I guess he's sick. Anyways they have a concert they're going to tonight, and I'm supposed to watch their son." She bites her lip, "would you be able to give me a ride to Johnny's?"

"Yeah, of course."

"Really? Thanks" She looks at me gratefully, "Aoife offered to cancel but it was Joey's Christmas gift to her."

"It's no problem."

Four hours later, I'm standing in Joey and Aoife's home watching Aoife run around getting her outfit ready, and Joey telling Katie specific instructions about AJ's bed time, and feeding schedule.

When Joey leaves Katie with the baby in her arms, I walk over to look at him. "Isn't he the most gorgeous baby ever?"

"Uh, yeah I guess." I reply, I don't really interact with a whole lot of babies, but the kid has his father's striking green eyes and they have this kind of knowing look about them.

"You can touch him if you want."

"What?" I ask.

"Hold his hand, maybe?" She suggests "here," she grabs my hand and places it so AJ so can grasp onto my index finger. "Aww."

"Firm grip" I offer, I was always the baby of the family, and don't really know how to interact around them, although Katie was an only child, but somehow she's a natural. I would say it's maybe a maternal instinct girls possess, but I had seen Lizzie interact with him, and she did not share those keen instincts.

"Aww, you look like a little family," Aoife declares walking into the living room wearing a bright pink dress and high heels that make her almost as tall as Joey.

Katie and I both take a step away from each other, but this kid has a bloody death grip on my finger.

"Are you staying Patrick? That would be great because I doubt Joe and I will be in good shape to drive K home."
