Patrick:

Usually, I would have excused myself from Gibsie's crazy schemes but a certain redhead kept me there playing along, I told myself it was so I could protect her from getting in trouble but it was more to do with the opportunity to spend time with her. I had conceded that she was Hugh's girl now, but I could still be her friend, at least I think I can.

Katie looked nervous as Gibsie dialed the number, but she picked up the phone holding it to her ear listening to it ring, I had zero expectation of this scheme actually working, until Katie started speaking

"Hello...Hello, is this the school, good God I have been waiting an eternity...yes...I'm the mother of Neil Sullivan, yes the future rugby star...I am proud...that's what I'm calling about actually, Neil won't be able to make the match this afternoon...I know it'll break his heart...well his grandfather has been staying in the hospital and things have taken somewhat of a turn." Gibsie and I are standing in shock, as Katie does a near perfect interpretation of a fifty year old mam, I can practically hear the gears in Gibsie's turning thinking of all of the shenanigans he can pull with the voice of an adult. "That would be great, and if you don't mind, can you not mention anything about his grandad, I think I should be the one to tell him, he's a sensitive one...Oh... yes he can drive himself home, thank you for your prayers love." Katie hangs the phone back up and looks at Gibsie and I expectantly.

"That was amazing, where have you been all my life, Claire bless her can't manage a day over twenty" it was true Katie had been eerily convincing, with the mannerisms and terms of endearment.

She looked back at us mischievously with a confidence I hadn't seen before "Do you boys want to play in the match too?"

I think we may have corrupted Katie Wilmot.
