Is that Katie?

Patrick:

It was the morning of our New Years Eve Party and the lads and I were getting excited, Gibsie's Mam drove us to the store to pick out the food, the drinks would have to be procured later.

"Lad, how many people are you inviting to this thing? This seems a tad overkill." Hugh asked Gibsie. It was true, we had an absurd amount of food, but given that the whole rugby team was attending, it wouldn't go to waste. 

"Don't worry about it." He looks lost in thought, looking out into the distance, "Hey, is that Katie?"

My eyes immediately search for her, and they land on a certain tiny redhead entering the church, she appears to have walked, it would have been one hell of a trek but she definitely didn't get out of a car. "What's she doing?" Johnny asks.

Hugh just shrugs, and Gibsie speaks up again, "Service is over, is she going in there for confessional?" I couldn't imagine that Katie had any sins.

"I guess, she's never mentioned going to confessional, Is that weird that she hasn't told me."

"Well...some people are only actively religious around the holidays." I say trying to make him feel better, "Or she's just private about it."

"I'm her boyfriend, she shouldn't hide things from me."

"Just ask her, I bet she'll explain it." Johnny says and it makes Hughie relax.

"So... does this mean tiny Katie's got something to atone for?" Gibsie wiggles his eyebrows, "Have you two been sinning?"

"No ya weirdo."

"She's probably in there saying 'Forgive me father, I didn't stop to smile at a squirrel and I need to atone' or 'I didn't get my homework done the day it was assigned, I waited until the day before it was due'"

"Will you quit it." Hugh said defensively. 

"I tell you, I go to church every week, but you couldn't push me into a Confessional box." Gibs adds.

"Not enough time in the day to list all your sins?" I ask jokingly, which earns a laugh out of them. 

"Let's walk over there for when she gets out." Hugh says and we cross the street.

"Are you sure lad? She might want to be alone for this." Johnny asks, always the voice of reason.

"Yeah, it will be grand."
