Katie:
I wasn't sure if Patrick's mother bought the whole, 'her son's just asleep while his two friends act weird and suspicious for no reason' act but if she hadn't then she didn't say anything.
When we reached Patrick's property, I was impressed with the farm he lived on, his house was exactly what I had imagined his house would look like, it reminded me of him in some weird way.
"Okay, um we'll him get into bed and I'll grab that book and then my Mam should be here." Johnny nervously explained.
Once Patrick's Mam unlocked the door, we carried/dragged him up the stairs, "I think he's really asleep." Johnny said laughing, I joined him, it really was ridiculous.
We finally reached his bedroom and deposited him on his bed, we took his shoes off, he was already in loose athletic clothing so we didn't need to change his clothes, not that I would have been involved in that, and we tucked him into bed. He looked very peaceful laying there.
Johnny put a bin beside his bed in case he got sick and a glass of water on his night stand.
Patrick's room was very boyish, with dark colours and minimal decor, he had a bunch of trophies on his shelves, lots of books and a few guitars with sheet music scattered on the floor and on every surface of his room.
Before we leave I pass Johnny a random book and we make our way outside saying goodbye to his parents who were sitting in the kitchen.
"Do you think they bought it?" Johnny asked me once we had closed the door, and were standing on the front porch.
"Hopefully."
"Your life was probably really peaceful before, Gibs and I kidnapped you and now you're impersonating parents, arranging for underage kids to drink at your boyfriend's party, and are the mastermind behind an elaborate scheme to make sure Pat's parents don't know he's absolutely shitfaced." He chuckled, "Sorry about that."
I couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation, I always wondered how trouble found Aoife so easily, but now I was kind of living in it. "I only blame you partially it's ninety-nine percent Gibsie's fault."
"Most things are ninety-nine percent Gibs's fault." We both laughed.
"I was wondering, have you ever taken singing lessons Kate?" I usually didn't like it when people called me Kate but I decided Johnny could call me Kate.
"No, I took piano lessons when I was younger though."
"How did Pat know you could sing like that? Hugh's never mentioned it."
"He hasn't heard me, I never sing for people, um.. Patrick walked in on me while I was in the music room and he overheard me."
"Oh...If I had a voice like yours I would be singing all of the time, you wouldn't be able to shut me up, look how I am with rugby and I've taken like a million lessons."
"Thanks...but I could never, I'm still surprised I was able to sing in front of you and Patrick."
"To be fair, Patrick won't remember."
"That's true." I laughed.
A very nice Range Rover then pulls into the driveway, "This is us."
We walk towards the car, and Johnny opens the passenger door, "Where are your manners boy? Let the young lady sit in the front." Johnny opens the door wider and steps aside for me.
"Oh no that's okay, I don't need to." I say feeling awkward.
"Oh don't be silly."
I begrudgingly get in, and Johnny's Mam is seriously beautiful, and dressed beautifully, and smells amazing.
"Your costume is adorable, love" She says making me blush.
"Now, I'm Edel, Johnny's mother, who might you be?"
"My name's Katie Wilmot."
"That name suits you, it means pure right?"
"Yeah it does." I don't feel very pure tonight though.
"So Johnathon, my one and only son who I carried for nine months and gave birth to, and have raised for the past fourteen years."
"Yes, Mam?"
"Were you planning on informing me that you had a girlfriend?"
"Oh God Mam." Johnny sighs, "She's not my girlfriend."
"Why not? she's very beautiful, and polite too, the perfect daughter in law."
"Christ, take me now."
"You stringing her along?" I'm about to die out of embarrassment.
"No, she's Hughie's girlfriend."
"Oh, why is she here with us?"
I finally found my voice, "I was supposed to get a ride with Patrick, but he fell asleep so Johnny came to help carry him and he offered me a ride."
"So, Johnny told Mrs. Feely that Patrick was asleep while he was in actuality shitfaced and managed to drag you into his hairbrain scheme. You're spending too much with that Gibson boy, Johnny."
Johnny just exhales, I'm not sure if I should correct her and admit it was me who had thought up this scheme, so I just stayed silent.
"Did you need to drag this innocent girl into it?"
"Yes."
"Yes?"
"Patrick would only agree to go along with it if someone sang to him, and Katie has a lovely voice." Johnny said trying to get payback for my silence.
"Really?" I'm dying of embarrassment now.
"She plays the piano too." Johnny says and I want to pick up the wings resting by my feet and start beating him with them.
"Oh, that is so lovely I always wanted Johnny to play an instrument, but it's all bleeding rugby."
"Well he's pretty good at it." I offer trying to prevent Johnny from embarrassing me further.
"Not good enough, to avoid the constant concussions and stitches and injuries, it drives me up the wall." I don't really know what to say to that, but thankfully we're at my house now. "Well it was lovely meeting you Katie, no, no Johnathon will get the door for you and he'll walk you to your door."
"Thank you Johnathon." I say feeling bold getting out of the car, holding my things. "You're welcome, Kate."
He walks me all the way to my door. "Sorry about her, she's bloody mental."
"It's okay, she's really nice, one of a kind." I offer.
"That's one way of putting it." He says smiling "good night, Kate"
"Goodnight, Johnathon."
Thanks for reading, kind of obsessed with the sibling vibe these two give off. - H <3
