Patrick:

Last night, I was even more restless than Gibsie and I hated it. I hated how jealous I was, it had been almost four years of this, and I couldn't seem to get over her.

I escaped to the kitchen for a few hours, but Katie never came. I didn't really expect her to, there was no reason for it, but it stung nonetheless.

"You doing alright lad?" Gibsie asked, we were riding up the ski lift to get back to the top of the mountain.

"Yeah."

"You sure, because you seem a little silent."

"Compared to my usual behaviour?" I ask annoyed.

"This wouldn't have anything to do with a tiny redhead would it?" He asked, despite my clear desire for him to stop talking.

"No, it would not."

"You sure?"

"Yes." I bite out.

"Because, you seemed pretty happy playing around on the little baby hills with her yesterday, and now that Hugh's with her...you've been depressed."

"What? I'm not depressed...It was my first time skiing too, I just needed the practice."

"For the whole day?"

"Yes."

"You, don't have to lie to me Feely."

"What would I be lying about? I'm glad Hugh's with her." Really, Hugh should have been with her yesterday too, but he was too fucking blind to see how much better she deserved.

"Right of course, you would much rather be here with me."

"Yeah." I lie.

"Right."

At around four in the afternoon, we board the bus, we sit in the same formation as the trip up, but something was off.

There was like a weird energy between Hugh and Katie, that I couldn't quite decipher. She seemed nervous and unsure, and Hugh was even more closed off than he had been for the last few days.

I knew him seeing Lizzie with Pierce would affect him, but I had hoped that it would make him finally accept that he had to let her go. I couldn't judge that much, his involvement with Katie hadn't stopped me from loving her. But I also wasn't dating someone at the same time as being caught up with someone from my past.

"How was your guy's trip?" Gibsie asked us all.

"It was fun." Katie said, and I'm not even sure if she was fooling herself, and Hugh just nodded, his mind elsewhere.

"It was good." I say, and Gibsie just gives me a look.

After that Katie pulls out her book and reads for the rest of the journey. We stay in silence, and I can't help but feel that something's changed.

Thanks for reading! I'm really sorry that this is super short but the next few chapters are going to be a lot longer, and I'll try to get them out tonight.  - H <3
