Katie:
"You alright Katie?" Hugh asks me, pulling me out of my minor anxiety attack.
"Yeah, I'm just a little nervous about sharing a room with Bella."
"Why?" Is he serious?
"Um..." I start but Gibsie cuts me off.
"Because, she's a bloody nightmare, lad. I've been trying to tell Johnny to cut her loose, but she's got him wrapped around her finger."
"I doubt anyone has Cap wrapped around their finger, and I thought that she was going with Cormac now." Hugh replied. "I'm sure it'll be fine, Katie." I just nod.
How could I be okay, when I was being forced to share a room with the biggest bully at Tommen, not to mention a girl who had been threatening me since first year.
We dispersed in the hallway, into our rooms and Bella was already sitting on her bed, filing her nails. "Must you disturb me?" She asks.
"Sorry, I'm just going to drop my bag off." I replied quickly. There wouldn't be enough time for skiing today, so we were just supposed to explore the lodge, and have dinner in the dining room.
"Before you leave, I need some information." I hadn't given her 'information' since the day of the pool party, and it haunted me that I was the reason Bella and Johnny had been some kind of item. "What's going on with Johnny?"
"He had academy training, couldn't come."
"I know that, swot." She glared at me before continuing, "He's been distant, does he have another girl?"
"Not that I know have, he's been really busy with his injury and rugby, he's probably just distracted."
"Men, don't forget about me because they're distracted." She says condescendingly.
"I don't know what to tell you." I'm feeling a little bolder now, "maybe he heard about you and his teammate." I say, and I swiftly leave the room, not wanting to deal with the repercussions of talking back to her.
When I rejoin the lads in the lounge near a huge stone fireplace, Gibsie speaks to me first, "How's the She-Devil?"
"Fine" I respond.
They deal me into their game of poker, and I'm surprised at how good Patrick is. Gibsie has no idea what's going on and Hugh's mind is elsewhere, so the game ends up being just between us.
After about an hour we go for dinner, and it's nice. But, I can't help but notice Hugh glaring at Pierce O'neill. The guy I've seen hanging around Lizzie for the last month. Last year, he paid her no attention, but now that another guy's looking her way, she seems to be consuming his thoughts again. I barely touch my dinner, my mind is too consumed with anxiety about both Hugh and Bella.
I sometimes feel, like I'm always on the brink of losing those close to me. Like with Aoife, she's my best friend, but I know Casey's her best friend and if it came down to it they'd choose each other. Patrick, Gibsie, and Johnny are my friends but I know they'd drop me if it weren't for Hugh. And worst of all, Hugh. The thought of him leaving me for Lizzie, kept me up at night. Even my mother left, and when my mind went into truly dark places, I felt like nothing but a burden to my father. Maybe he wanted to move away too, but he had to stay in Cork for me.
We hang out in the lounge for a couple more hours, and then it comes to the time I'm dreading... time to sleep in the same room as Bella.
I walk to my room and thankfully it's empty, and I'm able to get ready for bed in peace. I'm able to sleep for about an hour, before Bella comes into the room, but she's not alone. She's dragging Cormac Ryan by his collar, and they drop onto her bed kissing. "Get lost, little Katie." Bella says between kisses, and she doesn't have to tell me twice.
I internally cringe as I hear Cormac sleazily say, "she can stay if she wants." I think they might be perfect for each other.
I slip my shoes on, and a sweater and exit the room as quick as possible. The two crazies don't even wait until I leave, they just pretend I'm not even there.
My stomach is rumbling, so I make my way down to the empty kitchen, but I'm surprised when I see Patrick sitting at the table alone.
