Lizzie:
I had found myself at yet another party that Claire dragged me to, and not one part of me wanted to be here.
Pierce was here, the guy I was kind of seeing. Although, I kind of hated him but he was a distraction and I needed that. I deserved someone who treated me bad, I deserved someone who was as big of an asshole as me.
It also didn't hurt that it drove Hugh crazy. All of last year, he ignored me. Like not even make eye contact level ignore me, and I hated it. But ever since I started hanging around Pierce, I got his attention back.
I knew it was a low blow going after one of his teammates, but I never claimed to be a saint. I knew Pierce had plans for me tonight, he wanted to have sex and I'd probably do it. Not that I particularity wanted to, but I had become pretty passive in the terms of wants and needs.
Maybe, sex would make me feel something other than the current melancholy of existing that I dealt with on an everyday basis. Claire said I was overdramatic but I really don't know where she gets that from.
Pierce and I dance for a little while, I watch as he gets increasingly drunker. After four beers, he deems that it's too loud in here and that we should find somewhere to talk. Does he think I'm that stupid, I would rather he just come outright with it and not dance around it like, it's some act of spontaneity.
He grabs my hand and starts leading me upstairs, but we're intercepted by Hugh.
"What are you doing Lizzie?" Hugh asks, he still looks mad from the earlier altercation with Gibsie regarding his not so little anymore sister.
"Don't pretend to care Hugh" I say, deep down I know he cares, but it's not how I want him to care.
He looks at Pierce now, "Do you know how old she is lad?"
"What's it to you?"Pierce asks clearly confused, and it only enrages Hugh further. As much as I want to watch Hugh and Pierce fight, I stop it, out of respect to Claire. I drag Hugh to a nearby doorway.
"What the fuck Hugh? Why do you care what I do with Pierce?" I ask fuming.
"Because he's only using you." He said, waving his hands around, "You can't seriously be considering going upstairs with him."
"Like you give a shit, at least Pierce doesn't act like I'm invisible when he's with his friends." I say.
"You know I give a shit, if I didn't care, I wouldn't--" I cut him off.
"You wouldn't what Hugh? You wouldn't treat me like an afterthought? Because, news flash, asshole, that's exactly what you've been doing."
"What do you want me from Lizzie?" He asks, and I honestly don't have an answer for him. I just storm off.
To my surprise I see a familiar face in the kitchen. Shannon's older brother is standing there smoking. I approach him, "Got one of those to spare?" I ask, and when he turns around I ask, "remember me?"
"Just about, Lilly Young, right?" He responds.
"It's Lizzie, and can I have one?" I look towards the cigarette in his hand.
"One what?"
"A cigarette."
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because you don't smoke, and I don't share." I attempt to stare him down, but he returns it tenfold so I drop it.
"I hate parties" I say trying to break the tension.
