Gio stormed into her mother’s house, her heart pounding with a fury she had never felt so deeply. She had finally uncovered the truth that her mother had orchestrated the events that led to her separation from Sari. And now, after all the years, after all the pain, she had come to confront her.

Her mother stood calmly in the living room, arms crossed, as if waiting. When Gio entered, her mother didn’t flinch; she even seemed indifferent, her face showing not an ounce of remorse.

Gio took a breath, trying to steady her voice, but it came out trembling with anger. “Why, Mom? Bakit mo nagawa sa'kin to?”

She looked at her mother, searching her face for some hint of guilt or regret,

but there was none. “Bakit mo nagawang planuhin na bongguin ang sasakyan ko?  dahil ba sa alam mong kahit anong mangyari babalik at babalik parin ako kay Sari?”

Her mother’s gaze remained cold, unaffected. “I did what was necessary,” she said flatly. “I wanted you to have a different life, Gio a better one. And it worked, didn’t it? You moved on, even if you don’t want to admit it.”

“Moved on?” Gio’s voice cracked. “I lost six years, Mom. Six years of my life. I missed the chance to be there for Sari, wala ako nung mga panahon na mas kinailangan ako nila.”

Her eyes filled with tears, her anger mixing with sorrow. “Alam mo yung masakit? Ni hindi ko manlang nakita yung unang iyak, tawa at lakad ng anak ko.  Ngayon  she’s sick… She’s fighting leukemia, and it’s something she might’ve inherited from Dad’s side.”

For the first time, her mother’s expression wavered, her eyes widening slightly, though she quickly tried to mask it. “You have a daughter?” she whispered.

“Yes,” Gio responded bitterly, “a daughter who’s been fighting for her life, suffering through treatments. And while she’s lying in a hospital bed, I’m here, wondering if she has to endure this because of your choices.”

Her mother’s face hardened again, but she didn’t deny her part. “I did what I thought was right for you, Gio. I wanted you to live a life free of complications.”

Gio shook her head, a hollow laugh escaping her lips. “A life free of complications? Do you hear yourself? You didn’t just hurt me, you hurt Sari, at kahit sa apo mo.

She stepped closer, her voice a low, fierce whisper. “You were supposed to protect me, to support me, not manipulate me into your idea of the ‘right life.’”

But her mother’s expression stayed as cold as ever, her gaze unflinching. “I have nothing to apologize for,” she said firmly. “ginawa ko lang yun para sayo.”

Gio felt her heart break all over again, seeing that no amount of truth could melt her mother’s heart.

“Then I guess there’s nothing left to say, at sa tingin ko hindi na kita kayang patawarin” she murmured, her voice filled with exhaustion and disappointment. “You chose your pride over my happiness, and I’ll never forget that. Kalimutan mo na din na anak mo ako”

With one last look at the woman who had cost her so much, Gio turned and left, her heart set on returning to the family that truly mattered: Sari and Miyuki.

She had been waiting for Gio to arrive, hoping they could discuss everything that had happened of her and her Mom.

Just then, she heard footsteps approaching and turned to see Gio rushing down the corridor, her face a mix of concern and determination. “bebe kamusta, naging okay pa ang pag uusap niyo? ” she asked.

Gio shook her head, her voice trembling. “Hindi eh. Talagang pinanindigan at proud pa siya sa ginawa niya.”

“hanggang ngayon, hindi parin ako makapaniwala na kayang gawin yun sayo ng sarili mong ina” Sari's replied

They exchanged a brief, understanding glance, and together they stepped toward the door, ready to enter and be there for their daughter.

But as they reached for the handle, they froze when they heard Miyuki’s voice from inside the room, soft but clear.

“Dear God,” Miyuki was praying, her words earnest and filled with childlike innocence. “Please let me be okay. I want to go back to school and play with my friends. I miss playing the piano… I want to see my tito dad and have fun again.”

Sari’s heart ached at the sound of her daughter’s plea. The thought of Miyuki feeling scared and alone made her chest tighten.

As they stood outside, listening, Sari felt tears prick at her eyes. She could hear the strain in Miyuki’s voice, the weariness that was beyond her years.

“I know my mommy and mama is tired, but she’s so strong for me. Please, let them rest. I want to make them proud.”

Gio squeezed Sari’s hand, their emotions running high. They both understood the depth of Miyuki’s words how perceptive she was, despite her age.

The reality of their daughter’s struggle struck hard, reminding them of the immense burden their little girl carried, even as she tried to lift their spirits.

Sari took a deep breath, feeling a mix of sorrow and pride for her daughter. “She’s so brave,” she whispered, wiping away a tear.

Gio nodded, determination filling her eyes. “Namana niya sayo ang pagiging matapang , Sari.”

With a shared sense of purpose, they finally opened the door, stepping inside to join Miyuki. They found her sitting up in bed, her eyes brightening at the sight of them.
