Sari and Gio sat side by side on the edge of Miyuki’s hospital bed, wrapped in a quiet, comforting embrace.

They clung to each other, finding strength in each other's presence as they navigated the emotional weight of Miyuki’s illness. A small laugh escaped Sari’s lips when she felt a tug on her hand.

“Mommy!” Miyuki piped up, grinning despite her tired eyes. “I’m still here, you know! I want some hugs and kisses, too!”

Both moms chuckled, their faces softening as they turned to her, showering her with affection and holding her close.

Just then, the door opened, and Gab entered, hesitating for a second at the doorway.

Her eyes immediately fell on Miyuki, and she stood, momentarily frozen as she took in the sight of her niece for the very first time.

Gio turned, meeting her sister’s gaze, and offered a gentle smile.

“Ate Gab,” Gio said, her voice warm. “This is Miyuki your niece.”

Gab's eyes filled with emotion as she approached the bed, trying to hold back tears as she looked at Miyuki, whose small face was filled with curiosity and sweetness.

She knelt beside the bed, her voice soft but filled with awe. “Hi, Miyuki. I’m your Tita Gab.”

Miyuki blinked at her, then smiled shyly, sensing the kindness and love in Gab’s gaze. “Hi, Tita,” she murmured, reaching out a small hand toward her.

Gab took Miyuki’s hand, giving it a gentle squeeze as tears slipped down her cheeks. The reality of her niece’s situation hit her hard, and her voice trembled as she spoke. “You’re so brave, Miyuki. I can see that already.”

Gab looked at Gio, then back at Miyuki, her heart swelling with an unexpected connection.

“Masaya akong nakilala kita Miyuki” She wiped her tears, composing herself with a deep breath. “You know, I have a son, too. His name is Calix. I think he would love to meet you one day.”

Miyuki’s eyes brightened, her smile widening. “Really? I’d love to meet him!” she replied, the idea of a new friend lifting her spirits.

Gab looked at Sari and Gio, her gaze filled with determination. “Masaya din ako para sa inyo, sa wakas naayos niyo yung problema niyo. Ngayon kayo kailangan ng anak niyo,  but you’re not alone. We’re family, and I’ll do everything in my power to support you and help Miyuki.”

Sari felt a wave of gratitude wash over her, squeezing Gio’s hand in silent thanks.

Miyuki lay in her hospital bed, her face pale but her eyes filled with a quiet determination as she looked up at her moms. She reached out her small hands, grasping Sari’s and Gio’s tightly, her voice a soft plea.

“Mama, Mommy… can we go to the beach?” she whispered, her gaze drifting to the window, as if she could already see the waves. “I want to see the sunset… feel the sand and hear the waves. Just one more time.”

Sari and Gio exchanged a glance, their hearts breaking at the raw hope in their daughter’s voice.

It was a bittersweet request one that both of them wanted so badly to grant. Gio gently stroked Miyuki’s hand, nodding with a soft smile. “We’ll do everything we can, sweetheart.”

With resolve, Gio went to speak to Miyuki’s doctor, her heart pounding as she asked for a last-minute pass to make this special trip happen.

She explained how much it meant to Miyuki, how this simple moment could bring a spark of joy to her in these difficult times.

The doctor listened, understanding the depth of their request, and after a thoughtful pause, finally nodded. “We can arrange it,” he said gently. “We’ll have a nurse accompany her to monitor her condition. Let’s make this wish happen.”

Returning to the room, Gio’s face lit up with a hopeful smile. “Miyuki,” she said softly, bending down to meet her daughter’s gaze. “We got permission. We’re going to the beach!”

Miyuki’s eyes widened, sparkling with excitement. She clapped her hands weakly, her joy radiating throughout the room. “Thank you, Mama… Thank you, Mommy!” she beamed, her entire face lighting up with anticipation.

The following day, with the doctor’s and nurse’s guidance, they carefully bundled Miyuki up and made their way to the beach, just as the golden hour painted the sky in hues of pink and orange.

As they arrived, Sari carried Miyuki to the shoreline, her tiny feet touching the sand

As they arrived, Sari carried Miyuki to the shoreline, her tiny feet touching the sand. Miyuki’s eyes shimmered as she looked out over the vast expanse of the sea, watching the waves roll and crash in a gentle rhythm.

She sighed contentedly, leaning back into Sari’s arms as Gio held her other hand.

“Isn’t it beautiful, Miyuki?” Gio whispered, her voice breaking with emotion as they watched the sun dip lower into the horizon.

Miyuki nodded, a peaceful smile on her face. “It’s perfect. I missed this,” she murmured, her gaze soft as she looked up at her parents. “Thank you… for everything.”

They stood there, the three of them, bathed in the glow of the setting sun, cherishing every second of this precious memory.

Together, they felt the power of love, the strength of family, and the beauty of granting a simple, heartfelt wish.

And as the sun finally disappeared beyond the horizon, they held each other close, knowing this moment would forever be a part of them.
