In the dimly lit living room of Gio's condo, bottles and glasses were scattered across the table. Gio sat slouched on the couch, her head resting heavily on her hand, eyes clouded and distant.
She was barely aware of her friends Mica, Jo, and Cole who had come over after her cryptic, emotional message.
“Gio, this isn’t like you…” Mica said gently, sitting beside her and putting a hand on her shoulder. Jo and Cole exchanged worried glances, unsure of how to help.
Gio let out a bitter laugh, taking another swig from her glass. “I saw her… Sari… and I saw the little girl too.” Her voice cracked, her emotions tumbling out despite her usual restraint. “She… she has a daughter now. And she said… she said Travis is her father.”
Cole took a deep breath, sitting down across from Gio. “Gio, pag usapan niyo muna ng maayos to.”
Jo nodded, reaching for her phone. “You need to talk this through when you’re sober, Gio. Let’s call Gab she’ll know what to do.”
A few minutes later, Gab arrived, her face a mix of worry and determination as she took in the scene.
She walked over to Gio, her presence commanding attention. “Gio, you need to calm down,” she said firmly, taking the glass from Gio’s hand and setting it aside. “Getting drunk and shutting down won’t bring you answers. Talk to us.”
Gio looked up at her sister, tears brimming in her eyes. “Ate… I don’t know what to do. I thought maybe… maybe there was a chance for us. But she… she moved on. She has a family.”
Gab knelt beside her, reaching for Gio’s hand. “Gio, listen. You don’t know the whole story. And even if things are different now, you need to give her space, and yourself some clarity. Sari has her own battles, and so do you. Maybe it’s time to let go of the past and start fresh.”
Mica, Jo, and Cole nodded, each of them hoping to offer support as Gio grappled with her feelings.
The room was silent as Gio took a shaky breath, finally allowing herself to release the weight she’d been carrying.

Late one evening, Gab was passing by her parents' study when she overheard a conversation that made her stop in her tracks.
Her parents were talking quietly, their voices filled with tension. She leaned closer, barely daring to breathe as she caught snippets of their conversation.
“...it was for her own good,” her mother said firmly. “Sari was only going to hold Gio back. I had to step in.”
Gab’s heart skipped a beat, her mind racing. What are they talking about? She strained to hear more, trying to piece together their words.
“Hon. siguro panahon na para sabihin kay Gio ang totoo,” her father continued, sounding remorseful yet convinced. “Na ikaw ang dahilan ng biglaang hindi pag paramdam ni Gio kay Sari.”
Gab’s eyes widened, her pulse pounding as realization hit her like a tidal wave. Six years ago…She remembered how Gio had suddenly become withdrawn, lost, and unreachable.
All this time, Gab had thought Gio had chosen to walk away from Sari for her own reasons. But now she knew the truth.
Unable to contain her emotions, Gab stepped forward, her voice trembling as she confronted them. “Mom… Dad… is it true? You were the reason Gio left Sari?”
Her parents turned, their faces filled with surprise and a hint of guilt.
“Gab…” her mother began, her expression softening. “We did what we thought was best for Gio. Tulad ng sabi ko dati gagawin ko ang lahat, and Sari… Sari would have only made her life more complicated.”
“But she loved Sari,” Gab shot back, pain and anger etched across her face. “You took away her happiness her future with the person she truly loved! Do you have any idea what that did to her?”
Her mother looked down. “Wala akong paki alam, ang mahalaga napag hiwalay ko sila sa mas lalong madaling panahon”
Gab shook her head, the betrayal cutting deep. “Anong klaseng ina ka? sarili mong anak muntik ng mamatay dahil sa kadamutan mo! hindi ka manlang naawa? nasaan ang konsensya mo Mom?”
Her father looked away, clearly feeling the weight of their choices. “Gab, we understand now that it was wrong. But what’s done is done.”
Gab swallowed hard, her heart aching for her sister and the sacrifice Gio had unknowingly made. “I don’t know if Gio can ever forgive you for this… and honestly, I don’t know if I can either.”
Without waiting for a reply, she turned and left, her mind reeling. She knew she had to tell Gio, to finally reveal the truth hidden for so long.
And as she walked away from the room, she vowed to help her sister reclaim the happiness that had been stolen from her.
