A week ago, the atmosphere in Sari's home was filled with unease. Miyuki, her precious baby girl, had been unusually fussy that day, and Sari felt her heart racing with worry. After noticing that Miyuki had developed a fever, her anxiety escalated. The gentle coos and gurgles she had grown accustomed to were replaced by the sound of her baby’s soft whimpers, which tugged at her heartstrings.

Sitting on the couch with Yuki cradled in her arms, Sari tried to soothe her, gently rocking back and forth while rubbing her tiny back. “Shh, baby anak, it’s okay,” she whispered, but Yuki continued to cry, her small face scrunched up in discomfort. Sari felt helpless and scared.

Desperate for reassurance, Sari picked up her phone and quickly dialed Tacia, her best friend and trusted confidante. Tacia. “yes, Sari! May problema ba?”

“Tacia, I’m really worried. Miyuki has a fever, and she won’t stop crying,” Sari said, her voice shaky as she fought back tears.

“Okay, breathe. Let’s figure this out together,” Tacia replied, her tone immediately calming. “How high is her temperature?”

Sari quickly checked the thermometer, her heart pounding. “It’s at 101.5°F (38.6°C). Is that bad?”

“hindi naman, but we need to keep an eye on it. Does she have any other symptoms?” Tacia asked, her voice steady and professional.

Sari glanced at her daughter, who was now clutching her little fist and whimpering softly. “kanina pa siya iyak ng iyak, natatakot ako. I just don’t know what to do!”

“Okay, let’s try a few things. First, make sure she’s comfortable. You can give her a lukewarm bath to help bring down the fever. And keep her hydrated; offer her small sips of water or breastfeed if she’s nursing,” Tacia instructed.

“Will that help?” Sari asked, still worried but feeling slightly reassured by Tacia’s calm demeanor.

“It should. If her fever doesn’t go down in a few hours, or if she seems worse, I want you to call a doctor. But for now, focus on keeping her comfortable. I’ll be here if you need me,” Tacia encouraged.

“Thank you so much, Tacia. Hindi ko na talaga alam ang gagawin ko kung wala ka,” Sari said, her voice trembling with gratitude.

“I’m always here for you, Sari. Maasahan mo ako,” Tacia replied, her voice warm and supportive. “Let me know how it goes, okay?”

After hanging up, Sari took a deep breath, feeling slightly more empowered. She gently placed Yuki in the baby tub, filling it with lukewarm water, and carefully began the bath, hoping it would ease her discomfort. As she soaked her tiny feet and watched her baby relax, Sari whispered soothing words, trying to keep her calm.

With every gentle splash, she reminded herself that she was doing her best. Sari knew that with the love and support from friends like Tacia, she could navigate this challenging moment and provide the care her daughter needed.

After finishing the bath and gently drying off Miyuki, Sari settled back on the couch, still holding her baby close. Despite her efforts to soothe her, worry and exhaustion weighed heavily on Sari’s heart. As she rocked Miyuki softly, her mind began to race, and her emotions bubbled up, spilling over in a wave of drama.

“ my baby Miyuki,” she murmured, her voice thick with emotion. “Why does it have to be so hard sometimes? You’re just a tiny baby, and here you are feeling all miserable while Mommy feels so helpless.” A tear slipped down her cheek, the weight of her fears pressing down on her.

With Miyuki nestled against her chest, Sari continued, “sana andito din ang Mama Gio mo.I just wish she could see how beautiful and strong you are”

Miyuki looked up at her, her tiny eyes wide and innocent, unaware of the emotional turmoil swirling around them. Sari took a shaky breath, her heart aching at the thought of Gio being so far away, missing out on these tender moments of motherhood.

“pano kung hindi ako sapat sayo?” Sari’s voice cracked as she spoke. “What if I can’t protect you from everything out there? You’re so precious, and all I want is for you to be happy and healthy.”

She brushed her fingers against Miyuki’s soft cheek, feeling a mix of love and sorrow. “Pero pangako anak, ibibigay ko ang buhay na higit pa sa mayroon ako. I want you to grow up surrounded by love and laughter”

Sari could feel the weight of her loneliness pressing down harder. “I know I’m trying my best, but it feels so heavy without her here. I never imagined it would be this hard,” she confessed, her voice trembling. “I don’t want you to feel my worries, baby girl. You should only know joy and love.”

As she spoke, tears flowed freely, a cathartic release of all the pent-up fears and doubts she had been carrying. Holding Miyuki close, she realized that while the journey was challenging, she had to be strong for her daughter.

“Okay, Miyuki,” Sari whispered, wiping her tears away with the back of her hand. “kung dumating man ang araw na feeling mo malungkot at nagiisa ka, tawagin mo lang si  mommy I can be for you .”

Miyuki let out a small coo, as if understanding her mother’s words, and Sari couldn’t help but smile through her tears. “mahal na mahal kita anak ko,” she said, kissing the top of her baby’s head.

Sari took a deep breath, grounding herself in the moment.
