104. THE KIDS AREN'T ALRIGHT

Chapter one hundred and four

"The kids aren't alright."

It had been awhile and they were still working on rebuilding Alexandria along with finding enough food to feed all the people they had, as Judith, Daryl, Caroline and Rick were helping organize the food they had "the four of you ever gonna tell Uncle Daryl and Aunt Maggie what you know?" Negan asked "when they're around long enough." Daryl shared.

As the sound of footsteps could be heard outside, the five of them turned walking out of the building, dog came running up to them but as he did, Daryl began walking off, as Judith, Caroline and Rick followed, heading back home.

But what they had still wasn't enough, where a group was going back to where Maggie lived before she came here, which included Negan, leaving the Grimes kids all alone, as Daryl was lounging on the couch reading one of Carls old comic books, Judith, Caroline, Rick, Gracie and Maggie's son Hershel were playing cards at the table.

As Hershel put down his card, Caroline put down hers, followed by Judith, Gracie and Rick, someone's stomach growled "I'm hungry, too." Judith told them "you know before Aaron found our parents and brought them here, they survived on practically nothing." Daryl told them, as he flipped to the next page.

"Do you guys ever worry about your mom when she goes away?" Hershel asked "our moms not like the others, she always knows when someone's looking to kill." Caroline shared, slamming her hand down on the pile of cards "but our mom's not coming back. She's risking her life for something a lot bigger than food." Judith shared, as they all began putting their cards down again.

Later on, as the sun was going down, they all were finally eating meat that didn't come from an MRE, as Daryl was carrying the plate, Judith, Gracie, Caroline, Rico and Hershel all sat in a circle, as he walked up and put the plate down "see now this..this is what they'd eat while they were out there." He shared, sitting down, they all grabbed a piece and started eating it.

The next day, the walkers had taken down one of the walls and got in, where they had managed to put the wall back up and were banging along the walls to separate them, but with the adults all trying to rebuild the community, there wasn't really anybody there to look out for the kids.

So Judith had started up her own training class, which left Caroline, Rick and Hershel with Daryl, as the four were walking around, Daryl noticed two older boys playing with a walker who's head was sticking through the fence while another boy and girl stood back and watched "stay here." He told them, as he walked over to them "what the hell do you think you're doing?" He asked.

As the four looked to him "calm down we're just having fun." The one with the curly hair told him "yeah well your funs either gonna bring this wall down or cause yourself to get bit where I'm gonna have to be the one to put you down before you kill somebody." Daryl shared, as the boy walked up and shoved him "shut up. Your all talk. No wonder your mom abandoned you." He told him.

And when he did, Daryl put his hand into a fist and swung, punching him in the face, the boy stumbled back and as he did, Daryl punched him again as he fell to the ground "oh!" The four of them around voiced, as other kids ran past Rick, Caroline and Hershel "fight! Fight! Fight" they all chanted, as the three ran over, Judith and Gracie weren't far behind, as they all stood there watching as Daryl continued to punch him in the face, the kids face was then all bloody, as he stood up and walked away.

Making it back home, he was washing the blood off his hands that was not only his own but the boys "I heard about the fight." Rosita shared, as she walked up "you messed up that kids face really bad, a lot of kids are afraid to go near you or your siblings." She shared, as Daryl stopped washing the blood off his hands "he said my mom abandoned me." He told her.

"You know that's not true." Rosita told him, as Daryl knocked over the bowl of water "yeah, but the only reason she's not here is because she has to go get my dad who Maggie and Daryl tried to kill so she could kill Negan!" He voiced, grabbing his injured hand "okay, okay, it's okay." Rosita told him, stepping towards him, she grabbed his injured hand, Daryl shook his hand "none of this is okay." He told her.

Having been brought to the infirmary, Rosita was wrapping up his injured hand "Alexandria, this is Eugene. Come back." Eugene's voice came through the radio, as Rosita quickly stood up running over to it, she pressed the button "Eugene! Eugene, are you okay?" She asked, letting go "Rosita? Oh, it's dang good to hear your voice." Eugene told her.

Rosita pressed the button again "you too, I got young Daryl here." Rosita shared, letting go of the button, Daryl stood up and walked over, Rosita pressed the button "are you guys okay?" He asked, as Rosita let go of it "yes, we're all safe. We're doing okay. Uh, how are things there?" Eugene asked.

As Rosita and Daryl looked at each other, Rosita pressed the button "well, the wars over. Uh, Alpha and Beta are dead. But..Alexandria's trashed, and we're running out of food." She shared, letting go of it "I'm sorry I didnt seem to.." Eugene was saying although it came out all static, as Rosita pressed down on the button "yeah. Eugene?" She asked, letting go of it, there was only static as she pressed it again "Eugene, you still there?" She asked, letting go, there was once again nothing but static "wherever he is it can't be good." Daryl shared.
