Chapter one hundred and twelve

"There's always a cost."

For the longest time, we were just fighting to survive.

Trying to get back what we lost.

This family, our family,

we would do anything to protect each other.

And we're fighting now for something else.

Something bigger.

A new beginning.

But that comes with a cost.

There's always a cost.

Judith was writing on the steps of their broken home, hearing footsteps, she lifted her head up and saw Rick and Caroline walk into the room having their weapons back, she looked back down at her journal

I never got to know my mom, Lori.

Our brother, Carl, dreamed of a day when we'd all live together in peace.

Our mom, Scarlett, would do anything not to lose us.

Our dad, Rick, was searching for mercy.

And us?

Were the last of the Grimes.

That was the last thing our mom told us, that the four of us are each other's greatest strength.

And with what we've been through since she's been gone, we've never believed it more."

She wrote, as footsteps could be heard, she lifted her head up and watched as Daryl walked in the room, with their brother Carl's gun in his holster and the family hat in his hand, he put it on his head.

The four of them then walked out of the house, heading down the road toward's the others, Carol and older Daryl looked to them "I'll be back soon, all right? Till then, look out for each other." older Daryl told them "we're coming." Daryl told him "no." older Daryl told him "but.." Judith was saying "I need you here." Daryl told her "that's crap. This isn't the future our brother wanted. Not what our mom and dad fought for. Not yet. What we're doing can help everyone. Not just us, but maybe everybody everywhere. We want to be part of that. To make what our family believed in real." Judith shared.

"We've all been so focused on what's right in front of us for so long. You're thinking about what's after. That's a good thing. Maybe we could all do a little more of that." Carol shared, looking to older Daryl "that may be what she's thinking but what I'm thinking is that like our mom and dad, I'm not gonna sit here while you're all out there." Daryl shared "all right. But the four of you stay either right with me or someone else in the group, okay?" older Daryl asked "okay." they all said, as older Daryl stood up and began walking off, Judith, Daryl, Caroline, Rick and Carol followed.

Soon they were on a train, moving fast toward's the commonwealth, as Judith, Daryl, Caroline and Rick were sleeping, they leaned against each other, as older Daryl sat next to them, Carol was sitting across, looking at Daryl "he's been through hell." she said "he'll heal." older Daryl told her "I'm not talking about his injuries. What they did to him, what they tried to do his siblings. I know it's been a long time but you and I both know what Rick and Scarlett were capable of when someone messed with their family or someone they love died." Carol shared "why you telling me this?" older Daryl asked "because even when this is all done, he's never gonna be the same boy you knew." Carol told him.
