Chapter ninety nine
"The long walk to you."
Having made it to the island, Scarlett docked the boat and stood up, putting her bag around her, she grabbed Virgil's and threw it out of the boat, before leaning down to him and in handcuffing him from the boat "you couldn't have done that five hours ago?" He asked, but Scarlett didn't give him an answer, as she stepped out of the boat, she turned keeping her eyes on him as he put his bag on "come on. Family's inland." He shared, as he walked around her and to the left.
Scarlett turned around and followed him and as they headed inland, they passed overgrown trees, and saw a garden and a building, Virgil stopped and pulled a flower off one of the plants and put it in his bag "aren't you in a rush to get back to your family?" Scarlett asked, as Virgil looked at what other plants were there "well, I can't show up empty handed." He shared, turning and looking at her "my wife wouldn't like that." He shared, looking back at the garden.
"I think she'd be pretty happy with just finding out you're alive." Scarlett shared "this gardens her baby. Got herbs and teas for everything, pain, nerves, sleep." Virgil shared, picking them "yeah, members of my group tried to give me those after my husband died. All it did was make it worse." Scarlett shared, looking to the building nearby "is that one of the munition buildings?" She asked.
As Virgil motioned to the building "that's just an old lab, some structural damage. Wild animals get in there sometimes. Best to stay away." He shared, having collected all he wanted, he grabbed his bag and walked past her, Scarlett turned following him.
They walked alongside the fence that surrounded the old lab, and on it was a sign, which Virgil ignored but as Scarlett looked at it, it read, restricted area unexploded ordinance, she now knew he was lying to her, as she turned heading in the direction he went.
The two walked into an abandoned parking lot with chairs set up around what would be a fire, it reminded her of terminus, as she put her hand on her gun "my boy seems to think the sailors must've left a bury treasure in the grain silos. I can barely get him to not climb his way up the thing and jump in inside. Kids five. He's just like his mom. Once they decide to do something, there ain't a damn thing you can do to stop em." Virgil shared.
As Scarlett put her arm around his neck and aimed her gun at his head "enough stories. Tell me where your family is." She told him.
Where Virgil then walked her to three graves "when I said I had to come home to my family, I meant it." He shared, crouching down to out the flowers down "I promised her when we got married. Flowers everyday." He shared "you lied to me!" Scarlett voiced, walking up to him, she aimed her gun at his head "why the hell am I really here?" She asked.
"The others. They brought violence. The sickness came with it. Killed my family. We never had a lot of rippers. So I never really got good at..doing what it is you do. You're good with a gun and an axe. My family's still in there. My wife. My babies. That's why I asked you to come. Needed you to come." Virgil shared.
Heading to the building, Scarlett had switched out her gun for her axe as she walked toward's the door, Virgil was behind her, as they got closer a walker could be heard inside as it banged on the door, Scarlett put her hand on the handle and opened it, swinging her axe into the walkers head, she pulled it out, as it's body dropped to the ground, she stepped around it and continued walking through as growling could be heard in the distance, Virgil stepped in, slamming the door shut.
