085. I CAN'T BE AT HILLTOP

Chapter eighty five

"I can't be at hilltop."

Heading down the road, DJ was driving the wagon as the ones they were taking to hilltop sat in it, Scarlett road on her horse beside them along with Siddiq "how much further have the patrols cleared?" Scarlett asked "to the route D river bend. Their rig's about five miles past that. If their story checks out." DJ shared, as Scarlett nodded, she looked to her left and saw Siddiq looking at her, she looked back at the road "I think it's good you changed your mind about them." Siddiq shared "that's the thing. I didn't change my mind. I don't trust them just as much as I still don't trust you." Scarlett shared.

"What do I always say about having options, huh?" Magna asked "us not being defenseless out in the open because you gave them a reason not to trust us I choose that option. Except, oh, wait." Luke said "guys. Chill. We can roll with this a little while longer." Kelly told them and when it got quiet, Scarlett knew they were using sign to speak "cool?" Kelly then asked "no, no. It's not cool. I want my damn knives." Magna shared "I can give you your knives. Except one will be in the base of your skull and the other jammed into your heart. Especially after you came to my house last night in hopes of stabbing me and played it off like you were giving me your knife after what I assumed was you seeing my five year old son." Scarlett shared.

"Look, I'm sorry about Magna. She can be hotheaded." Kumiko shared, as Scarlett scoffed "she's been on edge since we lost Bernie." Kumiko shared "was he with you long?" Siddiq asked "long enough. He loved getting under Magna's skin. He, um, he used to wear this absolutely horrid shirt. It was like looking into creation itself. In paisley, god it was herrendous. Magna hated it. She said just looking at it gave her a migraine. So Bernie wore it every day for a week. Honestly, I think she came around on the shirt. Just like she came around on him." Magna shared "all one big happy family." Scarlett said.

"This place hilltop it's safe?" Kumiko asked "it is." Scarlett told her "what's it like?" Kumiko asked "I don't know. At least not anymore. I don't go there. I really don't go anywhere actually." Scarlett shared "then how do you know it's safe?" Kumiko asked her "the only reason I'm doing this is because I know if I don't my daughter's gonna sneak out and her brother and sister are gonna go after her all to check on you and I can't have that. Not like with my oldest. I won't go through that again." Scarlett shared, kicking her horse, she began galloping down the road.

Having gone off the road they were going through a field where the camp these people had came from was destroyed "oh, no. No, no, no. Sickos tore the damn place up. Look at this place." Luke shared "I didn't think it would be this bad. Is this all that's left?" Kumiko asked, as they stopped and got off, walking over "the herd my kids saved you from did all this?" Scarlett asked "no. A bigger one must've come through here." Magna shared, as DJ went up and killed one of the walkers, Connie, Kelly and Luke killed the three others that were stuck.

Siddiq grabbed a flute off the ground and walked up to Scarlett "this is the first instrument I ever played as a kid. My aunt got it for me for my birthday, and I had it a whole week before my mom decided, for her own sanity, that I liked painting better." he shared, going to blow into it, Scarlett ripped it out of his hand and threw it across the field, walking over to DJ "DJ, collect all their weapons." she told him, as DJ put them in a bag "hell, no. We're taking what's ours." Magna shared, as Scarlett pulled the gun out of her holster, she turned and aimed it at her "you're not taking anything. My men are not walking into a place that has people we care about in it with five armed strangers." she shared.

"Your men? What about you?" Kumiko asked "your far enough from alexandria. Your story's not made up. My work here is done. DJ and Siddiq can do the rest." Scarlett shared "so not only have you not been to this place in who knows how long, you aren't coming with us and we can't have our weapons?" Magna asked "no. You can't. Not even if I left you out here on your own I still wouldn't give them to you. Because you know where I live with my kids. And I'm not gonna let you go so you can just show up randomly one day and attack us. So either you do as I say or I kill all of you right now." Scarlett shared.
