Chapter one hundred and eight
"They're coming for the kids."
Our mother and other people we looked to as family told us stories about when the world fell, innocent people were killed cause they were believed to be sick and soon the dead outnumbered the living, and our mother waited in that hospital for our father to wake up, and when he did, that's when everything changed.
They found a group of survivors, which is where brother Carl was, , those people became their family and the farther they traveled the more people they found that became apart of that family.
But not all of them survived, either from walkers or because of bad people, and right now even though everything had seemed fine at the commonwealth, with Uncle Daryl being gone for more days then usual, and people yelling in the streets, things aren't looking so good.
Judith was writing, as she sat at the table with Gracie who was doing arts and crafts, Daryl was watching Carol who had been looking at those pictures very closely, Caroline and Rick were sitting with them, as a burnt smell filled the air "aunt Carol, your burning the pancakes." Rick informed her, as Carol put down the pictures and turned to the stove "oh, no, no." she said, taking the pan off the stove and walking toward's the trash "you don't like em burned?" she asked "our favorite kind." Caroline told her, as Carol chuckled.
Daryl stood up and walked to the counter, grabbing the pictures, looking through them "I thought Kelly worked for the newspaper with Connie, why would she need all these pictures of these people?" he asked, as Carol turned to him "there so we can..learn about this place. Keep an eye on things." she shared, as Daryl looked up at her, he knew she was lying "when are uncle Aaron and uncle Daryl coming back?" Judith asked "they're not." Daryl told her, putting the pictures down "what?" Gracie asked "Daryl.." Carol warned him, as Daryl turned to the table, holding his arm out to the window "can't you hear what's happening out there?" he asked, bringing his arm down "you think that whatever they got into out there is less dangerous? Your fooling yourself." he shared.
"Daryl that's enough!" Carol voiced, as Daryl turned to her "it's time to get up and move. It's time to play the quiet game." Carol told them, as Judith, Caroline, Rick and Gracie got up from the table.
Having hidden in the cabinets, Daryl held the knife in his hand, as Judith was with him, someone banged on the front door, as it was unlocked, two steps of footsteps could be heard, as a man walked past them, the other set off footsteps went further away but soon came back, as a woman sighed "it's empty. Are you sure he didn't say anything else?" she asked "Dixon was the only name that came through." the man shared, walking but then his footsteps stopped, although the woman's which were much lighter could be heard, as they also stopped, but then started up again and stopped once more "let's check the school." she said, as she began walking so did the man, as the door shut.
Having come out of hiding, all five of them put their backpacks on "we're just gonna have a little adventure today." Carol shared, as footsteps could be heard approaching, they all looked at he front door, as Daryl gripped his knife, Carol turned to them "I need you guys to go back to the bedroom and wait. And don't come out until I call. Go." she told them, as Daryl made sure, Gracie, Judith, Caroline and Rick went ahead of him, he followed behind and shut the door, standing in front of it, knocking could be heard again, and whoever spoke couldn't be heard, as the door opened "turns out you might've been right, I probably should've stayed in the goddamn cabin." Negan's voice could be heard, as Daryl turned and looked at his siblings and Gracie.
Where Jerry was there as well, in which Daryl listened in on Negan and Carol's conversation "Hornsby tried to scare Maggie by interrogating Hershel. So, the thought is that he is somehow gonna try and use the kids to draw our people out." Negan shared, and when he did, Daryl moved away from the door and over to Judith "you still have your notebook?" he asked, as Judith took off her book bag "yeah, why?" she asked, opening it "because we're not staying here." Daryl shared, walking over to the window, he lifted it open and looked out.
Having grabbed the blankets and sheets off the bed, the four of them had tied them together, as Gracie stood by and watched, when it was done, Daryl threw it out the window, turning to his siblings "okay, I'll climb down first, Judith you'll follow then Caroline and Rick you'll go last." he shared, looking to Gracie, he walked up to her and handed her the piece of paper "make sure Carol get's this." he told her, as Gracie had tears in her eyes and nodded, taking it, Daryl turned walking to the window, he climbed out of it and began moving down the makeshift rope, Judith hugged Gracie before heading down herself, where Daryl was down at the bottom keeping an eye out, as Caroline climbed down, followed by Rick, the four of them then ran off.
Just as a knock came to the bedroom door "kids? You can come out now." Carol said, and as she did, Gracie walked to the door and opened it, and when she did, tears were falling down her face, as she held out the piece of paper "what?" Negan asked, walking over, he looked past Carol and Gracie, seeing the open window and the makeshift rope "shit." he said.
Out on the street, there were tons of people which gave Daryl, Judith, Caroline and Rick plenty of cover, although as Daryl turned around, he noticed a man looking right at them as he turned to the woman beside him and said something "they're behind us." he told them, as the three turned around, the man began speed walking toward's them, the four of them turned around and began running.
Making it an apartment complex and into the back where the fire escapes were, Daryl and Judith pulled the ladder down, as Rick climbed up first followed by Caroline, Judith and Daryl followed behind, as they then headed up the staircase to a landing, Daryl looked across the way, seeing a pole that people were hanging things out to dry on, he climbed onto the bannister "Daryl." Judith whispered, as Daryl jumped across, grabbing onto it, he pulled himself up, standing on it.
The guy began walking through, as Judith, Caroline and Rick watched him walk right underneath their brother, Daryl swung off the beam, and jumped on his back, putting his arm around his neck as tight as he could, the guy brought his arms up and grabbed him, flipping him off of him and onto the ground "Daryl!" his siblings screamed, as the man looked up, Daryl then kicked him in the knee "ah!" the man voiced, going down on his knee, Daryl pulled out his knife and stabbed him in the neck, as blood poured out of him and onto Daryl's face.
