A low rumble of thunder rolled through the quiet streets of Westview, rattling the windows of the Harkness-Vidal home like a whispered warning. Rain pattered gently at first, then built into a steady rhythm against the roof, a lullaby for the storm gathering outside. Inside, the cozy living room flickered with the glow of a single enchanted candle, casting long, dancing shadows across the walls.
Y/n sat cross-legged on the plush rug, her dark hair falling into her eyes as she lazily flipped through a thick, leather-bound spellbook. The scent of old parchment and herbs wafted up from its pages, but her focus wavered, drawn to the darkening sky outside. The air was thick with the scent of rain and ozone, the storm's power palpable.
Agatha floated about the room with practiced ease, her magic subtly tidying stray books and fluffing cushions as she hummed an old, haunting tune. Her long fingers flicked elegantly, directing objects with a precision that only centuries of practice could grant. Across the room, Rio leaned casually against the kitchen counter, scrolling through her phone with one hand, the other tapping out an absent rhythm against the marble. Her eyes flicked up briefly, watching Y/n with a fond but amused expression.
Without warning, a crack of lightning illuminated the house, followed immediately by a sharp boom of thunder. The lights flickered once or twice and then blinked out completely, plunging the house into velvety darkness. The silence that followed was thick, broken only by the distant rumble of the storm.
"Oh, great," Y/n groaned dramatically, slapping her book shut. The sound echoed in the sudden quiet.
"Power's out," Rio announced unnecessarily, setting her phone on the counter as she squinted out the window. "Looks like the whole town's gone dark. Classic Westview." She sighed, rubbing the back of her neck.
Agatha smirked, a mischievous glint in her eyes as she lifted a hand. With a casual flick of her wrist, a glowing orb of soft, bluish light appeared, hovering gently in the air. It floated to the center of the room, casting a soothing glow over their surroundings.
"Good thing we're not exactly normal," Agatha remarked, a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips.
Rio chuckled, crossing the room to stand beside her. "Always showing off, aren't you?"
"Would you expect anything less?" Agatha shot back, her voice dripping with playful arrogance. With another snap of her fingers, several floating candles materialized, their warm, golden flames flickering gently as they hung in the air.
Rio grinned, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Very Hogwarts of you."
Y/n, still sprawled on the floor, snorted. "You are kind of a walking Hogwarts, Mom."
Agatha arched a brow, folding her arms across her chest. "Careful, young lady. I could turn you into a toad with a mere thought."
Rio slid an arm around Agatha's waist, pressing a kiss to her temple. "We'd still be cute toads."
Y/n groaned, covering her eyes. "Gross. You guys are so embarrassing."
Agatha chuckled, leaning into Rio's embrace. "Well, since we're clearly trapped in this spooky, stormy ambiance, how about some stories to pass the time?"
Y/n perked up instantly, pushing herself into a sitting position and scooting closer to the couch. "Yes! Tell me something good. Something embarrassing."
Rio groaned, flopping dramatically onto the couch and draping an arm over her eyes. "Do you always have to dig for dirt on me?"
"Absolutely," Y/n grinned, her eyes gleaming with mischief.
