Westview awoke under a blanket of pristine white snow, muting the world into a serene hush. For a town that rarely saw winter storms, seeing rooftops and lawns buried under inches of snow was nothing short of magical. Sixteen-year-old Y/n pressed her face to the frosted window of the living room, her breath fogging the glass as she grinned at the winter wonderland.
"Alice! Rio! Get up! It snowed!" she hollered, her voice reverberating through the cozy house.
The sound of footsteps followed as Alice shuffled into the room, still swaddled in her thick knit blanket. Her sleepy eyes widened as she peered outside. "No way," she whispered, breaking into a grin. "Holy crap, it actually snowed. We're definitely going outside."
Y/n smirked, already rifling through the closet for her snow boots. "I'm on it."
It wasn't long before Rio emerged from her room, rubbing her eyes and stifling a yawn. "Why the shouting?" she mumbled before catching sight of the snow-covered yard. Her expression shifted instantly. "Oh, wow. We have to go out there."
Agatha appeared next, her hair slightly mussed, holding a steaming mug of coffee. She leaned against the kitchen doorframe, watching the excitement unfold with an amused smile. "You're all like children seeing snow for the first time."
"It's because we are seeing it for the first time-at least here," Y/n quipped, pulling on her gloves.
Agatha chuckled, taking another sip of her coffee. "Just don't lose a toe to frostbite. And Rio, no magical cheating during snowball fights."
"Who, me?" Rio asked innocently, but the glint in her eye made Agatha roll her eyes.
Once everyone was bundled in scarves, coats, and mismatched gloves, Y/n, Alice, and Rio stepped outside, boots crunching against the untouched blanket of snow. The world seemed transformed, the quiet beauty of the snowy town giving everything a storybook feel. Snowflakes continued to drift lazily from the sky, melting on Y/n's nose and eyelashes.
"This is the best day ever," Y/n declared, spinning in place to catch the snowflakes on her tongue.
Rio laughed. "Alright, so what's the plan?"
"Snowmen first," Y/n decided. "Then a snowball war. And maybe sledding if we can find anything to use as a sled."
Alice nodded enthusiastically. "I'm on board. But no holding back in the snowball fight."
They got to work on the snowmen, the powdery snow perfect for molding. Y/n created a tall, regal snow witch with a crooked hat and a wand crafted from twigs. Alice's snowman leaned precariously to one side, with mismatched button eyes and a carrot nose stuck in at an odd angle. Rio's snowman, to everyone's amusement, resembled more of a lump than a person.
"Yours has... character," Y/n said diplomatically, trying not to laugh.
"It's a work of abstract art," Rio replied, brushing snow off her gloves.
Just as they stepped back to admire their handiwork, a snowball whizzed past Y/n's ear, courtesy of Alice.
"Oh, it's on," Y/n said, scooping up a handful of snow and packing it into a ball.
The snowball fight began innocently enough, but Rio's competitive streak soon took over. With a mischievous grin, she waved her hand, and a dozen perfectly shaped snowballs floated into the air around her.
"Hey! No magic!" Y/n yelled, diving behind a tree as Rio unleashed her frosty arsenal.
"All's fair in snowball fights!" Rio called, laughing as snowballs zoomed toward Y/n and Alice, who scrambled for cover.
Inside the house, Agatha and Lilia sat by the fireplace, sipping spiked hot cocoa. Agatha smirked as she watched the chaos unfold through the frosted window. "She couldn't resist, could she?"
"She's having fun," Lilia replied, though her lips twitched in amusement.
Their moment of peace didn't last long. The door burst open, and Y/n stomped inside, cheeks flushed and hair dusted with snow. "Agatha, you're coming outside. You too, Lilia. Reinforcements are needed."
"Excuse me?" Agatha asked, raising an eyebrow.
Alice appeared moments later, grabbing Lilia's arm. "No sitting this one out!"
Reluctantly, Agatha and Lilia joined the fray. Agatha immediately conjured a glowing shield to deflect a snowball aimed at her head. "You've declared war," she said, smirking at Rio.
The battle became legendary. Agatha's precision with enchanted snowballs made her nearly impossible to hit, while Lilia surprised everyone with her speed, darting through the snowy battlefield like a seasoned warrior. Y/n, Alice, and Rio formed an alliance, attempting to overwhelm the older witches with sheer numbers.
Everyone was thoroughly exhausted when the sun dipped low on the horizon, casting the yard in shades of orange and pink. Snowballs littered the ground, and the once-pristine snow was now trampled into a chaotic mess.
"Alright, that's enough," Agatha announced, brushing snow off her coat. "You're all frozen solid. Time to go inside."
"One more round!" Y/n pleaded, but Agatha gave her a look that immediately ended the debate.
They retreated indoors, shedding their damp outer layers by the door. Agatha lit the fireplace with a snap of her fingers, and Rio passed around mugs of hot cocoa topped with whipped cream and marshmallows.
Wrapped in a blanket, Y/n curled up between Agatha and Rio on the couch. She rested her head on Agatha's shoulder while Rio draped an arm around her. The warmth of the fire and the sweet richness of the cocoa made everything feel perfect.
"Best snow day ever," Y/n murmured, her voice sleepy.
Agatha pressed a kiss to the top of her head. "It was pretty magical."
Rio chuckled, brushing a strand of hair from Y/n's face. "Next time, I'm winning that snowball fight."
Y/n grinned, her eyes fluttering closed. "We'll see about that."
The room was filled with laughter and soft conversation as the fire crackled and snow continued to fall outside. Agatha and Rio shared stories of their past-of magical mishaps and childhood memories-while Y/n listened, her heart full.
When Y/n finally drifted off to sleep, Agatha and Rio exchanged a quiet smile, their love for their unofficial, official daughter unspoken but clear.
"She's happy," Rio whispered, pulling the blanket over Y/n.
Agatha nodded. "And so am I."
The snowstorm might have transformed Westview into a wintry wonderland, but the warmth of family made the day unforgettable.
