December 12th was quiet on their cozy street, the soft glow of Christmas lights reflecting off a light dusting of snow. The neighborhood seemed to hum with tranquility, each house adorned with twinkling lights and wreaths. Inside Y/n and Taylor's home, the atmosphere was warm and festive. The living room was a picture-perfect holiday scene: a crackling fire, stockings hung with care, and the scent of pine mingling with freshly baked cookies. In the kitchen, Taylor was laser-focused on the task of gift-wrapping, her hands deftly folding and taping each package with precision. Occasionally, she muttered under her breath when a stubborn piece of tape refused to cooperate.
At the sound of soft footsteps, Taylor glanced up to see Y/n shuffling into the kitchen. Dressed in an oversized hoodie stretched snugly over her pregnant belly, Y/n looked a mix of exhausted and serene, her hair tousled from a restless night. Despite her weariness, she offered Taylor a sleepy smile and went to the sink to fill a glass of water.
"Can't sleep?" Taylor asked, her eyes flicking back to the gift she was wrapping.
"Nope," Y/n sighed, leaning against the counter after siping. "The twins are throwing a party in there." She patted her belly with a wry smile. "I think they're auditioning for a dance competition."
Taylor chuckled. "Well, at least someone's enjoying the Christmas vibes."
Y/n pulled her phone from the counter and opened her chat with Agatha. The older woman was always awake, no matter the hour, a comforting constant in Y/n's life.
Y/n: Hey, Mama. What are the Christmas Eve plans again?
Agatha responded immediately as if she'd been expecting the message.
Agatha: Same as always. You two roll in around 3, we eat too much, exchange gifts, and I beat Rio at cards. You okay, sweetheart?
Y/n chuckled and quickly typed back.
Y/n: Just up. The twins are restless.
Before she could put her phone down, a sharp, unexpected pain gripped her abdomen. She gasped, clutching the counter for support.
Taylor's head snapped up, her gift forgotten. "Y/n? Are you okay?"
"I..." Y/n's voice wavered as the pain subsided. She barely had time to answer before a sudden gush of warm fluid soaked her sweatpants. Her eyes widened in shock. "Taylor-my water just broke."
For a moment, Taylor froze, her brain struggling to catch up. Then, she sprang into action as if someone had flipped a switch. "Oh my God. Okay. Stay calm! I'll grab the bag!" She darted out of the kitchen, returning moments later with their hospital bag slung over her shoulder.
Y/n laughed weakly through the discomfort. "Stay calm? You're telling me to stay calm?"
Taylor grinned, sliding an arm around her. "Fair point. But we've got this. Let's go meet our babies."
The drive to the hospital was a surreal blur, a mix of snowy streets, deep breathing exercises, and Taylor's steady stream of reassurances. By the time they arrived, Y/n's contractions were coming regularly, each more intense than the last.
In the delivery room, Y/n channeled every ounce of her strength. With each contraction, her focus sharpened, her determination unwavering. The nurses marveled at her resilience and offered constant encouragement. Taylor stayed by her side, holding her hand, whispering soothing words, and stealing kisses on her forehead.
By the time they arrived, Y/n's contractions were coming steadily. The hospital staff quickly settled her into a labor and delivery room, their professionalism and warmth easing some of her anxiety.
