The front door swung open, and Y/n barely spared a glance up from her calculus homework as she stepped into the house, followed closely by Billy and Nicky. She shrugged off her backpack, letting it drop to the floor with a thud before sliding onto a stool at the kitchen island.

Billy, already used to the routine, beelined for the kitchen table, setting down his own bag before pulling out a worn spellbook. On the other hand, Nicky flopped onto the couch, Switch in hand, his attention already lost to whatever game he was playing.

"We're home," Y/n called lazily, dragging a pencil across her notebook.

"Took you long enough," Rio teased as she emerged from the hallway.

Y/n rolled her eyes. "Sorry, Mom, some of us have brains and stay after school for tutoring instead of just smiling our way through life."

Rio grinned, leaning against the counter. "And yet, you're still complaining about calculus."

"That's because calculus is the devil's favorite pastime," Y/n shot back, flipping a page with unnecessary aggression.

Billy chuckled, shaking his head as he scanned through his spellbook. "You could just let me do a little memory enhancement spell—"

"No magic," Agatha's voice rang out before he could even finish. She strolled into the kitchen, setting down a stack of mail. "You know the rules, Billy."

"Yeah, yeah, I know," Billy sighed, slouching in his chair.

The door swung open again, and Lilia, Jen, and Alice walked in.

"And the circus has arrived," Y/n muttered under her breath, just loud enough for Jen to hear.

Jen placed a hand over her heart, gasping dramatically. "I feel so welcomed."

Y/n gave her a slow, sarcastic smile. "You should. It took so much effort to acknowledge your existence."

Lilia pressed her lips together, clearly holding back a laugh. Alice just shook her head with amusement. Rio? She stepped forward and high-fived Y/n without hesitation.

"Really, Rio?" Jen asked, unimpressed.

"What? She's hilarious," Rio defended, ruffling Y/n's hair.

Standing by the fridge, Agatha smirked as she watched them, amusement clear in her eyes. "You realize you're just encouraging her, right?"

"And?" Rio smirked.

Jen pointed toward Nicky, who hadn't looked up from his game once. "At least you have one child who respects his elders."

Not glancing up, Nicky muttered, "I just don't care enough to get involved."

Billy snorted into his book.

Alice sighed, resting her chin in her palm. "I don't know why I expect anything less from this group."

"That's on you," Y/n quipped.

Lilia finally let out a quiet chuckle. "It really is."

Jen huffed, plopping onto a chair. "I don't know how Agatha puts up with all of you."

Agatha took a slow sip of her tea, eyes twinkling with amusement. "Years of patience. And selective hearing."

Y/n smirked. "You mean survival instincts from being stuck with Mom for so long."

Rio grinned proudly. "I am a handful."

Jen groaned. "This household is a menace."

Without looking up, Billy muttered, "And yet, here you are every week."

Alice patted Jen's shoulder sympathetically. "We all make questionable life choices."

Lilia chuckled and took a seat, watching the group interact. "Honestly, it's refreshing."

Y/n arched a brow. "Refreshing? That's one way to describe barely controlled chaos."

"More like barely controlled snark," Billy added, turning a page in his book.

Nicky suddenly groaned, tilting his head back. "Ugh, I lost again. I swear, this game is rigged."

Y/n smirked. "Or, hear me out, maybe you just suck at it."

"Gee, thanks for the support, sis," Nicky deadpanned, finally glancing up from his screen.

Rio snickered and draped an arm around Y/n. "She gets it from me," she said proudly.

Agatha shook her head, still thoroughly amused. "I don't know whether to be impressed or horrified."

"Why not both?" Alice teased.

Lilia leaned back in her chair. "You know, I think this is my favorite part of the week."

Jen scoffed. "You mean the part where Y/n publicly humiliates me?"

"Exactly," Lilia said with a small grin.

Billy finally closed his book with a dramatic sigh. "Alright, enough chaos. Who's making dinner?"

Y/n smirked. "You volunteering?"

Billy gave her a flat look. "Absolutely not."

"Figures." Y/n stretched, closing her textbook with a thud. "Well, I made my contribution by entertaining you all. I think that earns me a free meal."

Alice raised an eyebrow. "You mean insulting Jen?"

"Same thing."

Rio laughed, nudging her wife. "She's got a point."

Agatha sighed, shaking her head. "Fine. I'll cook."

Nicky cheered, finally setting his Switch down. "Finally, real food and not whatever burnt disaster Mom tries to pass off as dinner."

Rio gasped, placing a hand over her heart. "How dare you."

Billy smirked. "I mean, he's not wrong."

Y/n grinned. "See, Nicky does get involved when it's important."

Agatha chuckled, shaking her head as she moved toward the stove. "Alright, everyone out of my kitchen before I change my mind."

With that, the group slowly migrated toward the living room, still laughing, teasing, and settling into their usual evening routine—filled with chaos, snark, and a whole lot of love. It was another typical night in the Harkness-Vidal household, and none of them would have it any other way.
