A Quiet Sunday

The morning sun bathed Agatha and Rio's home in a soft, golden light, casting long shadows across the wooden floor. Inside, the real warmth came from the laughter and chatter around the breakfast table. Plates of fluffy pancakes vanished at an impressive pace, aided by eager hands and hearty appetites. Charlie buzzed with energy, her words tumbling over one another as if afraid they'd run out of time. In stark contrast, Nicky meticulously cut his pancake into perfect squares; his brow furrowed with the focus of someone solving an ancient puzzle.

"Grandma Rio, can we plant flowers today?" Charlie asked, her voice bright with anticipation.

Rio leaned back in her chair, smirking at Agatha, who stirred her coffee with the unhurried grace of someone long used to Charlie's boundless enthusiasm. "Told you this one's got the gardening bug," Rio quipped, her dark eyes twinkling.

Agatha's lips curved into a soft smile. "As long as she keeps that bug away from my herbs, we'll be fine." She shifted her gaze to Nicky, who was still engrossed in his breakfast. "What about you, Nicky? Ready to get your hands dirty?"

Nicky's fork paused mid-air. He looked up with a solemn expression. "Will there be worms?"

Agatha chuckled, her tone as gentle as the morning breeze. "Maybe a few, but they're good for the garden."

Y/n reached out, placing a reassuring hand on her son's shoulder. Her other hand rested lightly on her belly's small but noticeable curve. "Don't worry, buddy. I'll be right there with you. We'll keep the worms in line."

After breakfast, they ventured outside, arms loaded with gardening supplies. The garden stretched out before them, a vibrant tapestry of colors and scents. Rio, taking on the role of foreman, handed out tools and assignments with practiced efficiency.

"Charlie, you're on marigolds. Nicky, you're my violet expert," she declared in a playful and authoritative tone.

Charlie dove enthusiastically, her small hands digging holes for the marigolds. "Look, Grandma! I'm so fast!" she called out, her face glowing with pride.

Nicky carefully approached his task, gently patting the soil around each violet he planted. Y/n knelt beside him, her hand guiding his when he hesitated. She paused briefly to adjust her position, mindful of her growing belly. "You're doing great, Nicky. These violets are going to love their new home."

Nearby, Agatha and Taylor worked in harmonious rhythm. Every so often, Taylor would nudge Agatha with her elbow, murmuring a quip that earned the older woman a quiet, melodic laugh.

The family's loyal and exuberant dog, Padfoot, darted around the garden in a flurry of fur and energy. His nose skimmed the ground, pausing occasionally to inspect a particularly interesting clump of dirt. "He's quality control," Taylor remarked with a grin, laughing as Padfoot barked at his latest discovery.

By late morning, the garden had transformed into a lush haven, the new blooms adding bursts of color that seemed to make the air hum with life. Rio stood back, hands on her hips, surveying their work with a satisfied nod.

"Not bad, team," she said, her voice laced with pride. "Not bad at all."

Charlie bounced on her toes, her excitement undiminished. "Can we do this every week?"

Agatha knelt to brush the dirt from her gloves, her smile indulgent. "Let's see how these ones do first, little sprout."

After cleaning up, they decided to take Padfoot for a walk. The rain clouds were still far on the horizon, so they descended the winding path from Agatha and Rio's home toward the town square. The walk was leisurely, the air crisp and filled with the earthy scent of blooming flowers and freshly turned soil.
