The cozy kitchen buzzed with warmth and life, the smell of fresh basil mingling with the tang of tomato sauce. Rio Vidal stood at the counter, her knife moving rhythmically as she chopped various colorful vegetables. A bowl nearby was steadily filled with vibrant bell peppers, mushrooms, and red onions, ready to top the homemade pizzas they'd planned for dinner.
Across from her, Agatha Harkness stood at the island, hunched slightly over the dough she was rolling out with deliberate precision. Her lips pursed in concentration as the wooden rolling pin moved back and forth, her brow furrowed in the way Rio had come to recognize as a hallmark of her girlfriend's perfectionism.
Rio glanced over, an amused smirk tugging at the corners of her lips. "You know," she began, her tone light but teasing, "you treat that dough the same way you probably treat your students."
Agatha paused mid-roll, looking up with an arched brow. "And what, exactly, is that supposed to mean?"
Rio shrugged, feigning innocence as she dropped the freshly chopped vegetables into the bowl with a soft clatter. "Overworked and slightly terrified, but somehow better for it?"
Agatha gave an exaggerated scoff, setting the rolling pin down as she placed her hands on her hips in mock indignation. "For your information, my students adore me. And I am nothing if not nurturing."
"Sure you are," Rio replied, her voice dripping with humor. "I bet they're all so grateful to be molded into perfect little essays under your careful supervision."
Agatha narrowed her eyes but couldn't suppress the smirk creeping onto her face. "You don't believe me? Ask your daughter."
Rio raised an eyebrow, leaning casually against the counter. "Oh, I'm sure Y/n would love to weigh in on this."
"Exactly," Agatha said, picking up the rolling pin again with a flourish. "She'll tell you I'm nothing short of inspiring. Besides, this dough isn't overworked. It's being guided-encouraged to rise to its full potential."
Rio couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head. "You're impossible, you know that?"
"And yet, here you are, dating me," Agatha shot back with a wink, her hands moving deftly to transfer the dough onto a waiting pizza stone.
The gentle rhythm of their banter filled the kitchen, accompanied by the soft hum of the music playing from the radio on the windowsill. The scene felt domestic, almost ordinary, yet their warmth and familiarity were anything but.
Soon enough, the front door opened and closed with a heavy thud. Both women turned toward the noise just as Y/n appeared in the doorway, her backpack slung over one shoulder and an unmistakable scowl on her face.
"Hey, sweetheart," Rio greeted, her brow furrowing with concern as she wiped her hands on a dish towel. "Everything okay?"
Y/n let out a long sigh, dropping her bag onto the floor with a muffled thud before leaning heavily against the doorframe. "Just school stuff. Tests are coming up, and projects are due. You know, the usual stress."
Standing by the island with freshly rolled pizza dough in hand, Agatha shot Rio a questioning glance, silently asking if she should step back. Rio shook her head, signaling she had it covered, and walked over to her daughter. She placed a comforting hand on Y/n's shoulder, her touch firm but warm.
"You've been working so hard lately," Rio said gently, her voice low enough to keep the moment private. "Why don't you take a break? Have some fun with us tonight. Pizza night should be relaxing, not just something to stress about."
Y/n shrugged, the weight of her backpack gone, but the weight of her responsibilities was still visible in her posture. "I'm not really in the mood."
"Not in the mood for pizza?" Agatha interjected with exaggerated disbelief, her tone light and playful. "I didn't even know that was possible."
