The year was 2001, and the late autumn chill had settled over Westview, New Jersey. The leaves painted the town in hues of gold and crimson, their crunch beneath footsteps a familiar melody. Agatha and Rio had lived in their charming two-story home for years, their marriage a tapestry of deep love and magical mischief. But recently, their lives had taken an even more exciting turn—Agatha was pregnant.
From the moment they found out, Agatha and Rio were over the moon. The news had brought an extra sparkle to their already vibrant lives. Rio, the original green witch, and embodiment of death, balanced her mystical duties with the joyful chaos of preparing for their child. Though thrilled, Agatha found her emotions heightened. Her hormones made her clingy, and her heart ached every time Rio had to leave.
Agatha had taken to nesting with fervor, transforming their home into a haven of comfort and anticipation. Soft blankets were draped over every surface, shelves brimmed with baby books, and the nursery—a work in progress—was filled with tiny clothes and magical wards she had lovingly crafted with Rio. She spent hours dreaming about their future as a family of three, though her excitement often gave way to vulnerability, especially when Rio was away.
On one such evening, a biting wind howled outside as Agatha curled up on the couch. The TV flickered with an episode of Friends, though her eyes remained unfocused. She sighed, her hands absentmindedly cradling her growing baby bump, the loneliness settling deeper than usual. With a trembling hand, she reached for her phone and dialed Rio's number, the need to hear her wife's voice overwhelming.
"Hey, my love," Rio answered after a few rings, her voice calm and soothing, as though she could sense Agatha's turmoil.
"Hi," Agatha murmured, her voice soft and tinged with longing. "I miss you."
Rio's gentle chuckle resonated like a melody. "I miss you too, baby. How are you feeling?"
"I'm fine," Agatha said, though her tone betrayed her emotions. "Just... hormonal and clingy and..." She let out a small, frustrated laugh. "I hate it when you're not here."
"Oh, sweetheart," Rio said tenderly. "I'll be home before you know it. You and Y/n are my entire world. Nothing keeps me away for long, you know that."
They talked for a while longer, Rio's voice a balm to Agatha's heart. Agatha shared how Y/n had been particularly active that day, with little flutters of movement that made her smile despite her loneliness. Rio listened intently, asking questions and reassuring Agatha that she was doing an amazing job. When they finally hung up, Agatha's eyelids grew heavy, and she drifted off to sleep, the TV still murmuring in the background.
The next morning, just as the first rays of sunlight crept through the curtains, Rio quietly entered the house. She set down her bag and smiled warmly at the sight before her. Agatha was still asleep on the couch, her face peaceful, her hands resting protectively over her belly. The TV flickered softly in the dim light, and a blanket, which had slipped partially off her, lay draped over her legs.
Rio walked over, carefully tucking the blanket back around her wife. She leaned down, pressing a kiss to Agatha's forehead. "I'm home, my love," she whispered, though she didn't expect Agatha to wake.
Heading to the kitchen, Rio unpacked the flowers she'd brought—a bouquet of Agatha's favorite blooms: deep purple irises, white lilies, and soft pink peonies. She placed them in a vase on the counter and began making breakfast. The rhythmic sizzle of batter on the griddle kept her company as the scent of pancakes and brewing coffee filled the air.
As she flipped a pancake, familiar arms wrapped around her waist from behind. She smiled, feeling Agatha's warmth against her back. Agatha buried her face in the middle of Rio's back, her embrace tight.
"Good morning, clingy," Rio teased gently, her voice filled with love.
Agatha only hummed, her voice muffled. "Missed you," she mumbled, holding Rio closer.
Rio laughed softly, turning off the burner and sliding the last pancake onto a plate. She turned in Agatha's arms and hugged her wife, pulling her close. Agatha sighed deeply, her face now pressed against Rio's chest. Rio's chin rested lightly on Agatha's head as they swayed gently.
"You're supposed to be resting," Rio said with a soft laugh.
"I'll rest after my hug," Agatha replied stubbornly, her voice muffled.
Rio kissed her head and gently guided her back to the couch. Moments later, she brought the plates into the living room, setting them on the coffee table. She sat beside Agatha, who eagerly nestled between Rio's legs. Rio's hands rested over Agatha's baby bump, rubbing gentle circles as they ate and talked.
"These are amazing," Agatha said between bites, looking over her shoulder with a soft smile. "You're spoiling me."
"You deserve it," Rio replied, brushing a strand of hair from Agatha's face. "Both of you."
The sound of Friends played softly in the background as they laughed at the occasional quip from the TV. Long after the plates were empty, they remained cuddled up together. Rio's hands continued their soothing motions, and Agatha leaned back into her wife's chest, her smile radiant.
"I can't believe this is really happening," Agatha said quietly, her fingers resting over Rio's on her bump. "Y/n is going to be so loved."
"She already is," Rio replied, her voice thick with emotion. "And she's going to be amazing, just like her mom."
Agatha tilted her head up, meeting Rio's gaze. "Which mom?" she teased softly.
"Both," Rio said with a smile, leaning down to kiss her wife.
As the morning stretched into midday, they stayed wrapped in each other's warmth, talking about names, nursery plans, and the magical wards they would craft together to protect their daughter. They shared laughter, dreams, and quiet moments of tenderness, cherishing the perfection of the life they were building.
The afternoon sunlight streamed through the windows, casting golden rays across the living room. Agatha leaned back further, her head now resting on Rio's shoulder. They had moved on to discussing stories they would one day tell Y/n, a mixture of whimsical adventures and gentle lessons.
"Do you think she'll inherit our magic?" Agatha asked, her tone curious but laced with a hint of concern.
"If she does, she'll have the best teachers," Rio assured her. "And if she doesn't, she'll still have all the love and support in the world. No matter what, she'll be extraordinary."
Agatha smiled at the certainty in Rio's voice. "I just want her to be happy."
"She will be," Rio said firmly. "With you as her mother, how could she not be?"
They shared a tender kiss, their hearts brimming with anticipation for the life they were creating. The rest of the day passed in a warm haze of shared moments—decorating the nursery with newly arrived trinkets, practicing lullabies together, and sharing quiet laughter over small, silly things.
As the evening descended, they found themselves outside, bundled in cozy sweaters on their back porch. The sky was a canvas of stars, twinkling against the inky blackness. Rio held Agatha close, her arms wrapped securely around her wife as they gazed upward.
"Do you think she'll love the stars as much as we do?" Agatha asked softly.
"I think she'll love anything we show her," Rio replied. "But if she doesn't, we'll learn to love whatever she loves. That's what being parents is about, isn't it?"
Agatha nodded, her heart full. At that moment, beneath the vast, star-studded sky, she knew they were ready. They were ready to welcome their daughter into a world filled with love, magic, and the unbreakable bond they shared. Their future glowed brighter than any star above.
