The weeks following Taylor's proposal had been a whirlwind of excitement. Their relationship, already solid and full of love, had now entered an entirely new chapter. Late-night talks and wedding planning became their nightly ritual. Their days were filled with laughter, debates over flowers, and the occasional playful disagreement about cake flavors. Taylor was insistent on choosing a chocolate ganache filling, while Y/n leaned toward something fruitier, like raspberry or lemon. No matter how many decisions they had to make, from the guest list to the venue to the tiny details, one thing remained constant: their excitement for the future they were building together.
But today was going to be different. Today, Y/n had a special plan.
One quiet morning, Y/n woke up with an idea. Stretching lazily in bed, she glanced at the clock and smirked. It was already 6:30 a.m., and the house was still wrapped in the soft glow of early morning. Taylor, still sound asleep beside her, looked so peaceful. Y/n gently slid out of bed without disturbing her fiancée, knowing this was a moment she needed to keep a secret. Her mind was already racing with excitement for the day ahead.
It was time to rope Agatha into something special.
Slipping into her favorite comfy jeans and a cozy sweater, Y/n grabbed her car keys from the bedside table. She glanced back at Taylor, who was still curled up in the sheets and smiled softly. Her heart fluttered at the thought of marrying her-of spending forever with someone who made her feel like she was home.
Y/n stepped into the quiet morning air, her breath coming out in little puffs in the cool breeze. As she drove, the world seemed to wake up with her, the sun rising just over the horizon. It felt like the perfect day for what she had planned: a surprise for Agatha that would take them down a sentimental road Y/n knew her mama would appreciate.
At 7:00 a.m. sharp, Y/n pulled up to the Harkness-Vidal house. The early morning sun cast a warm glow over the familiar porch. She loved this house-the scent of fresh herbs in the garden, the gentle hum of magic that lingered in the air from years of enchantments, and the undeniable sense of belonging. The house had always been home, even when it felt like so much of the world was chaotic.
Y/n let herself in with the spare key Agatha had given her ages ago. The door creaked open, and the soft sound of classical music filtered through the air, most likely from Agatha's early morning routine.
"Mama!" Y/n called, her voice ringing through the quiet house, filled with affection and the excitement of the surprise she had in store.
There was a groan from upstairs, followed by the unmistakable sound of Agatha muttering in her sleep, no doubt annoyed at being woken at this hour. Moments later, Agatha appeared at the top of the stairs, her long, dark hair slightly mussed and wrapped in a luxurious silk robe that was clearly too fancy for this early hour. Agatha blinked a few times, rubbing her eyes.
"Y/n," she groaned, voice thick with sleep. "What on earth are you doing here at this ungodly hour?"
Y/n grinned, already knowing this would be the perfect way to shake her mother out of her sleepy haze. She held up two cups of coffee-Agatha's favorite dark roast with a touch of vanilla and just the right amount of cream.
"We're going dress shopping," Y/n said, eyes sparkling excitedly.
Agatha blinked, processing her daughter's words, the sleep slowly lifting from her features. Then, as realization dawned, a slow smile spread across Agatha's face. "You're not serious."
"Oh, I'm very serious," Y/n said, her voice a mix of mischief and determination. She handed her a steaming cup of coffee. "We're finding the dress today."
Agatha's eyebrows arched in mock disbelief, and then the twinkle of excitement began to show in her eyes. After all, she'd known that this day was coming, but Y/n's enthusiasm was infectious. Agatha took a long sip of the coffee, savoring the warmth. "Let me get ready."
