Blurring the lines

Amy's POV:

The drive to his penthouse wasn't long but it felt like an eternity before either of us spoke.

We entered the elevator and the spark between us crackled and the tension returned.

I wondered if he too could feel what I felt. The yearn for him to kiss me again returned and I could not help but to long for it.

It was just the two of us in this enclosed elevator space and I felt as though at an alarmingly fast rate the air was being sucked out of the elevator cart.

**DING**

The elevator doors opened up to his stunning foyer in his penthouse and I couldn't help but lunge forward first in desperate need to get away from him.

I turn directly to him and attempt to get this over with.

"Okay, now that you have me here what is it that you need to discuss with me? I would like to make it to the pharmacy on time so that I can pick up my prescription." I say to him with the utmost confidence and professional tone I can conjure. This will show him that I meant business when I said to him that I was going home tonight.

"I took care of that already, it's on the counter in the kitchen." He says to me with a devious smile plastered on his lips before stepping closer to me. "I thought we discussed this already, Amelia, you're staying here with me tonight."

I take a step back making sure I am out of his scent before I can calculate my preferred choice of words for him.

"This isn't normal, and I can take care of myself. And if you're worried about my safety then I can have Mia stay over or I can stay with Mikayla. But there is no need for me to stay here with you."

He takes another step forward. A large one at that and is suddenly right in front of me and yet again I can't breathe. "Why is it so hard for you to see that I want to protect you. I want you to feel safe Amelia."

I turn around and hastily reply.

"That's not your job. This is blurring the lines between work and personal. I don't even understand how we got here?! Or how I got here for that matter!" I'm almost yelling damn near by the end of the sentence.

"It doesn't matter how we got here."

***DING***

The elevator door opens and my head snaps to the left and notices that Caroline is walking off of the elevator cart.

She noticed me there and it almost caused her to stumble backwards, clearly not expecting me to be here. She covered the stride in her step well to the degree that a normal person couldn't see her falter at her reaction of me being in his home, especially at this hour. But I saw it and I sure as hell won't lie that it felt damn good, to see her react that way.

I take this time to turn around and face him and quickly look back at her again, just as she was approaching.

"Damon honey. I haven't seen you all weekend." She finishes as she walks up to him and proceeds to kiss him on the cheek.

I can't help but to look away and attempt to pretend that I wasn't looking at their interaction and how intimately close she felt with him.

"I alerted your front desk that I was coming up, they tried to stop me for some reason saying that you wouldn't be taking calls for the rest of the week, but I let him know that I'm a special guest." She finishes off with a confident smile plastered on her face. "Is there anything else your assistant needs from you before she's relieved. You usually never allow your assistants up here. There must have been some sort of emergency with the merger for her to be here, especially this late. Did I miss out on anything while I was at my conference meeting in L.A? Surely it was a quick turn around for me."

With that I start to walk off in the direction of the elevator.

"Amelia come back here." His voice boomed across the foyer.

I continued walking.

"Caroline, I have business to attend to. So I'll show you the way out. And the next time you want to show up unannounced make sure you clear it with my front desk before bypassing them and coming up here."

I reached the elevator doors and pressed the button.

The doors opened and as my right leg was about to enter the elevator, Mr. Anderson gripped my arm and he pulled me back gently.

"Caroline, I'll see you at work next week to discuss the final decisions on our last meeting regarding the merger." His tone was icy and final, while still holding on to my arm.

She stepped into the elevator and her face revealed hurt and anger while staring at his hand placed on my arm, just as the elevator doors closed on her.

He grabbed my other arm and faced me towards him.

"I'm sorry for the way that I asked you earlier about your past with men. I didn't mean to fuck it up so badly, but I had been thinking about it all morning while you were sleeping, and when I got done talking with the detective about your case all he did was remind me of how Julian was trying to tarnish your name. And I couldn't help it. I had to know why he was trying to smear your name. I had to know about your past."

He dropped his hands from my arms.

"It's still not any of your business...."

I take a moment before responding once more noticing that he's patiently waiting for my response. "But there's not much to know about my past anyways."

"Come." He commanded me as ushered me into his living room with his primal energy that constantly reminded me of who I was in front of. An Adonis who sauntered into his own living room showing me how sculpted his back looked as he took off his jacket and slung it over the sectional.

After he threw his jacket over the couch he motioned for me to sit across from him on the other side of the sectional. As he sat down and placed his forearms on both of his thighs while he brought his hands together into a ball up to his mouth, his muscles proceeded to protrude through his shirt just as he hunched over a bit, showing me with clear intent that he was all ears.

He watched me place my purse down on the couch before I faced him again.

I silently sigh because I'm mentally, physically and emotionally exhausted with the day that I've had and knowing that it won't be over anytime soon, also makes me even more exhausted.

I think it was the exhaustion that caused me to say what I said next. Or maybe it was just me wanting to get this whole conversation out of the way.

"What do you wish to know?"

He takes a pause before responding, almost as if he's carefully preparing himself for what he's about to ask me.

I don't know if it's that he didn't want to insult me or he just wanted remain professional about the matter.

"Why only one?"

I knew what he meant by that. He didn't need to say much but his soft and sultry tone let me know that we're entering a territory I'm not too sure we can come back from.

Suddenly I can feel my cheeks starting to heat up.....
