The day passed by horrifically slow....
Once Mikayla finally reached my office to inform me that the day was over I couldn't help but see the light behind her silhouette. I had been starving all day due to the fact that I hadn't eaten anything. I was practically wishing, in fact hoping the bus would be there once I arrived at the bus stop.
And for the first time in forever the odds were in my favor, because there stood the bus as if simply waiting for me to arrive. A cheshire grin slowly began to creep on my face and I couldn't help but think: Thank you Jesus!
It wasn't the first time I had gone to work before without food for the day due to the lack of income but at least when I worked at the electronic store I wasn't far from my home therefore once I got off it was only a 20 minute walk. Now that I have this job, it's going to take me a lot longer to get home.
Once I got off the phone with my mother, I couldn't help but smile at the great news she told me. I got utterly excited once she told me that she would come to visit me in a month. Normally I would object to my mother taking a flight out here to visit, since we didn't necessarily have the means for it most of the time, but this time I couldn't help contain the joy I felt after hearing the news. I hadn't seen my mother in almost 5 months. Once, I got done with my third year in college my mother decided to move back to her country in Dominican Republic, she has a piece of land out there that she maintains but since the cost of living is less out there, I send her money once a month. I make sure she's living a good life out there even if it means I have to struggle for a little while longer.
I knew Mia would be excited once I told her that my mom was coming to visit. My mother and her have always gotten along pretty well, in fact she treats her as if she were her own daughter. For that, Mia is eternally grateful for, since Mia's family went down hill (or fell of the wagon as they say.) Mia's mother and mine were definitely close friends and still continue to be but after what happened to Mia's family back in high school, things have never been the same.
I realized my stop was approaching and I couldn't help but roll my eyes, hating at how long it takes me to get home.
I began walking towards the apartment and couldn't help but think back to those times back in high school.
Mia's father is a crack addict, and as unfortunate as it is to say he also chooses women over his own children and family. It's rather sad actually, how Mia's mother became the only parental figure she could count on. She became not only sole provider but simply detached from Mia and her siblings. I assume she was so grieved stricken at how the love of her life not only became succumbed to drugs but became this man who not only cheated on her but on his family as well. They all lived together until Mia's freshman year of high school (when we met) that her father began cheating on her mother with his co-worker from work.
Her name was Natalia, his co-worker. I mean come on she simply sounds like a home wrecker just by her name.
I couldn't help but smile at how my subconscious sneered at the memory of the home wrecker who not only destroyed my best friend's home and parents but destroyed her in ways people will never understand.
Mia's mother owned a little shop that was good enough to help them survive and have a good enough income arrive to their household. Mia's father had plans on becoming an attorney, so he decided to join law school while his wife owned the business and stayed at home with the kids to help raise them. Until tragedy struck one night when Mia's mother came home to find her husband on their living room floor with Natalia naked and high off drugs. All while the kids were upstairs sleeping. Mia's mother couldn't believe her eyes and all she could do was yell at them to get up and to get out. Mia eventually came downstairs and watched the scene that played before her eyes and couldn't bare to see the horror. She tried to calm her mother down and help her realize that things will get better and that her father could and that he would get help, but it didn't make a difference.
