Amy's POV:
The crowd erupted in a loud round of applause and cheers as we all stood after Damon finished his speech.
His speech was phenomenal and filled with such emotion for his future projects, the children in need, and everything that encompasses the growth of his business along with his clients, and their businesses as well.
The host hands him a custom crystal award, signifying the business man of the year award, and they pause to allow the photographer to take a couple of photos.
All too soon as he's walking down the stairs of the stage, a swarm of people surround him instantly.
The music begins to play and people disperse around the room as the chatter begins to fill the room once more.
He's almost to our table but is stopped by none other than Genoveve and a man who's with her, that I don't recognize.
They share a brief conversation but she notes how quickly he dismisses her as he walks past her headed towards me.
He reaches our table and places his award on the table, as I congratulate him just as his parents do the same.
He places a swift kiss on my cheek as he thanks me, causing my face to burn as he quickly embraces his mother, and shortly after he shares the same with his father.
A photographer comes along requesting to take a family photo of them. I take a few steps back, as he's still speaking with his father about the award, while the photographer begins to prep his camera.
"I seem to have underestimated you."
I turn around to find that the soft and feminine voice who spoke, belongs to none other than Genoveve.
My eyebrows knit together in confusion at her statement.
"I'm not sure what you're referring to." I respond back to her clearly confused on what she means.
"How you got him to call you his girlfriend, that's a mystery within itself. But to have his mother call you his girlfriend, now that." Her smile ceases as her true feelings take over and cynicism displays on her face. "Is something I would love to know, on how you achieved just that."
She takes one step closer towards me as I brace myself.
"I'm not sure that's any of your business." I respond coolly, despite me being anything but.
Her eyes grow wide in clear shock at my statement. But not long does she gain composure of herself before continuing.
"I don't suppose you believe, what ever little arrangement you have with him, that it will last long. I've heard about the many that come and go throughout the years. But it was I, that held the title to fiancé."
"Ex." Is what I manage to say, before she can continue on with her little tirade.
"Excuse me?" She questions.
Stunning. She truly is a vision, especially with her exquisitely jewel detailed long onyx fitted dress that provided a deep V around her breast area, and it hugged her so tight that I wondered how exactly she was breathing in this instant. But that means nothing considering the fact that she is no better than Caroline. Another one added to the long list of women who obsess over the Man of the year, that happens to want me.
Sigh..
"You are his ex- fiancé. And you are quite right. You held the title. Held, as in past tense. It's not my job to convince you on why his mother refers to me that way, nor him. But understand one thing Genoveve, you are right to not underestimate me." I finish the last sentence with enough venom laced in my words that it causes her to take a step back.
