Amy's POV:
Here I was holding hands with none other than Damon Anderson, standing in front of his parents' front door. Which of course happens to be in none other than the Hampton's.
The door is swiftly opened by an older lady, I assumed this was someone who worked for the family but didn't have enough time to wonder for too long due to Mrs. Anderson shortly arriving behind her.
"Damon! Amelia! I'm so happy to see you again." Her graceful walk does wonders for her as she struts closer to us. Her ensemble screams 'old money aesthetic' due to her black collared shirt sleeve V-neck Polo, stunningly paired with a pair of high wasted nude trousers. Her nude and black pointed toe heels provide the perfect touch.
I let go of his hand just as she reaches him and they embrace before she turns to me. Her smile is infectious and it causes me to smile back as she leans in for a hug and grants me a kiss on the cheek. She smells divine and I am just now feeling a bit in adequate with my choice of fashion for this meeting.
She pulls away from my embrace and waves for us to follow her.
The foyer was stunning with its open concept overlooking the outside of the house via tall paned black border windows. But the more we walked down the opulent home it was evident his mansion was styled to garner envy of all the others homes that surrounded it. The home was open and inviting with its light contrast and warm tones.
As we reached the modern marble square top kitchen island she gestured for me to take a seat. I was a bit nervous now that we weren't surrounded by people like we were last night. Instead it would just be the four of us, and me potentially being inspected almost as if I were under the microscope.
The kitchen is enormous and screams front page of Vogue when visiting a celebrity's home. The neutral warm tone colors of brown, marble white along the kitchen island provide an amazing contrast for the sand colored cabinets. Everything is immaculate and pristine in its place as we approach the kitchen island, yet there's a sense of home here as his mother turns around to face me with a bright smile across her face.
"Damon meet me in the study." Damon's father appears from behind us, which makes me jump slightly at his suden appearance.
His father greets me quickly and then heads off to where I assume the study is. Damon plants a small kiss on my cheek, stating that he'll be back shortly, before heading off into the same direction where his father went.
As my head turns back around to face his mother I notice that she has a small smile on her face.
"I've never seen him that way before." Her voice comes out small, as she approaches the island.
"He's had a lot of brand new business lately, and he was quite happy to see you two last night at the benefit." My smile comes off genuine, at the last sentence, hoping she doesn't feel too weird about me being here.
Her smile broadens even further as she shakes her head no.
"No, dear. I appreciate your kindness towards us but he's different because of you."
A blush creeped across my face at her comment and I suddenly felt comfortable.
********
The lunch was amicable and was going quite well until Damon stated that he needed to get back urgently.
Genoveve called him in the middle of the four of us walking to the back patio after having lunch, stating that there was a crisis with the contract.
It took everything in me not to roll my eyes at the statement in front of his parents.
His mother seemed a bit frustrated just as I was but his father understood and asked if he required his help. Damon responded with promising his mother another lunch, and for his father to meet him at the office tomorrow.
As we were hugging goodbye his mother stated that when I returned she would like to show me some of the old family photo albums, to which I fondly smiled and agreed that I would love nothing more.
We were back in the city now with him driving us back towards his home.
"You've been quiet since we left." His statement snaps me out of my thoughts.
"Just processing." Is all I could manage.
"Is there something bothering you?"
"Is this what it's going to be like moving forward? With Genoveve constantly calling you about the business or am I expected to pencil in Caroline as well for those calls." A hint of disdain evident as I finish my sentence.
"Amelia." He sighs. "This is business. Do you think I want to abruptly end lunch with my parents to return back to handle an issue with this contract? She understands that we are simply business partners."
"I see." I take a deep breath. "Well I'd like it if you can drive me home."
"Amelia." His tone harder this time. "I'm not comfortable with you going home after what happened last night. Besides you're deflecting because of this situation."
"And I'm not comfortable with you meeting another woman on a Sunday for 'Business' but hey, here we are." My tone comes off condescending.
We slow down at a stop light and he turns to face me.
"And what would you have me do?"
I turn to face him before responding contemplating whether or not I should say what I want to next.
Our staring contest is broken by his phone ringing, he reaches to answer it just as he pulls off again.
"Anderson." His voice comes off clipped and short. "I see. I'll be there shortly."
"Because we're close to your apartment, we'll head there now. Genoveve needs me to meet with her father right now about-."
"Of course she does." I cut him off.
A minute later we arrived.
"I'll come for you tonight." He says to me as he comes to a stop.
"Don't bother." I say to him as I grab my purse and hop out of the car.
"Amelia!" He yells my name as I hurriedly walk towards the entrance of my building and shortly after I hear his phone ring.
I roll my eyes and can't help but feel stupid. Stupid for feeling this way, but overall stupid for allowing my emotions to get the better of me.
