June 2038
"I goin' outside." Wolf said, pointing out the window.
"It is lunchtime. We go after we eat." Mina said, turning back to the stove to dish out the Kimchi jjiggae.
She smiled to herself proudly. Her English had improved a lot since they started watching Wolf.
She carefully poured the stew in two large bowls and one small, Tayo themed bowl for Wolf. She poured milk into his, to make sure it wasn't spicy.
Changbin came out of the bathroom in search of a clean towel to dry his hands.
He went and found one, replacing the dirty towel.
"Where's Wolf?" He asked.
Mina turned abruptly... "Right there-" she said, hoping it was true.
But Wolf was no longer playing by the window.
Changbin and Mina immediately looked toward the door.
It was left just slightly ajar.
They both panicked.
Changbin ran out like a flash.
Wolf turned as he heard heavy footsteps running down the long hallway.
Uh oh. His uncle was running towards him.
Wolf panicked and kept running towards the elevator.
"Stop!" Changbin yelled out.
Wolf stretched up and pushed the button, waiting anxiously for the elevator to come.
"Get back inside." Changbin said.
"I not coming." Wolf said defiantly.
Finally, Changbin reached him, just as the elevator doors opened up.
He scooped him up with one arm.
Wolf was immediately distracted from what he wanted. He felt Changbin's arm. It was the same size around as Wolf's whole body.
"Wow." Wolf said quietly.
Changbin sighed. "Where were you going?"
"Outside." Wolf said nonchalantly.
"It's lunchtime." Changbin said, carrying him back down the hallway.
"I want the swings." Wolf said sadly.
"You can play at the swings after lunch." Changbin said as they got inside the apartment again.
Mina stood in the kitchen with her arms crossed, looking down at Wolf angrily.
Changbin set Wolf down.
Wolf hid behind Changbin.
"No, no, no." Changbin said, pulling him out from behind him. "I think you did something wrong, didn't you?"
Wolf shook his head. "I not. I not wrong, I just go to the park."
"Okay. You didn't do anything wrong." Changbin said.
Wolf looked down shamefully. "Just one thing."
Changbin crouched down. "What? Tell me."
Wolf leaned in and whispered in his ear. "Auntie said to eat lunch."
Changbin pretended to gasp. "Well, you better go get scolded."
Wolf whimpered. Sure, getting scolded didn't bother him before, but these days, it did. He was starting to learn how the adults in his life acted. They scolded him whenever they were disappointed in him. Sometimes, if he didn't listen after getting scolded, he would get a slap on the hand from his aunt or uncle. Or worse, he would get smacked on the bum by his dad or Uncle. If he wanted to avoid that, then he had to listen when he got scolded.
