The next few weeks were awkward still.
Juno dreaded the upcoming semester, and he was reminded of it every Sunday morning when he saw Zoey at church.
She always looked cute. Her curly hair either in a loose bun with stray curls, or down freely, framing her cute, round face.
Juno wouldn't admit it yet, but he liked seeing her so often now. A stark contrast to how annoying she seemed at first.
He normally smiled at her from across the room.
She smiled back.
They didn't have any major interactions since that night after the party, but these days, Zoey was the one watching him, observing everything she could about his character. Whether she should trust him when school started. Whether he was secretly evil.
He was confusing.
He seemed respectful, always helping out after the service. He talked to his parents politely sometimes, but he switched often to whining at his dad for seemingly nothing.
And he was definitely bossy. He would go and round up his brother and sister, giving them glares if they talked back.
But still, all throughout the service, his little sister would walk back and forth from her seat to go sit on Juno's knee, and he would cuddle her as if she were a baby.
His little brother was especially adorable, and Zoey didn't understand how Juno could possibly be able to scold him the way he did.
One day, the little boy had run out the doors of the church, happily chasing his friends.
Next thing Zoey saw was a panicked Juno. He looked towards his parents, then spun in a circle, looking all around the church for the boy.
Zoey went over. "Your brother ran outside." She said.
Juno's expression instantly became angry. "He's been told so many times not to run around the parking lot." Juno spat. "Thanks." He added before turning around and running out the doors.
Zoey stepped outside curiously.
She watched as the boy froze and got picked up like a ragdoll.
"Do you want to get hit by a car?!" Juno scolded.
The boy pouted.
"Answer me."
"Noooo." He whined.
"Well you're acting like you do, coming out here and running around. You're small. People won't see you running around these cars, and you're not paying attention. You're going to run out and get hit!" Juno scolded harshly.
