Teddie pulled up beside the Starbucks just as it started to rain.

He put the car in park and looked around for Jet.

-

Jet waited outside the building in the shadow, tucked beside some sort of shrub.

He could hear thunder rumbling in the distance. Wow. Perfect timing. This would really give him the full experience.

He had often worried that he could end up homeless one day, but he hadn't imagined that he'd be out on the streets so soon.

How did people survive like this? Especially in the rain or snow. . .

He would often see the homeless people when he walked around, and he knew that someday, he would probably have to learn to live like them. But he was trying to put it off as long as possible. That's why he stayed away from the hard drugs.

He figured he would probably only rarely sleep on the streets. Basically only when Bax was too drunk. Otherwise, he'd sleep at Bax's house. But still, that seemed better than getting shuffled around in foster care.
It would just be a different lifestyle. One he'd have to get used to.
But he didn't feel ready to get used to it today.

He zipped his jacket up and crouched down, trying to conserve his body heat. Maybe it would be better to plan to stay awake throughout the night and then sleep during the day, once it was safer.

That is, unless Teddie was actually coming back for him.

Was Teddie really coming back for him? If so, what then? Where would he go? Back to Toronto? But he needed to be here to talk to his foster mom in the morning and explain himself.

Then, he saw Teddie's car. He stayed still, wondering what Teddie was thinking of him now.

Teddie got out of the car and looked around. He looked worried. Either because he was concerned for Jet, or because he was worried about his own safety.

"Jet!" Teddie called out.

Jet wiped his tears away, pretending he hadn't been crying, and stood up, coming forth slowly. Ugh. This was so embarrassing.

Teddie turned around in a circle until he spotted him. "There you are!" He said, coming toward him. "Were you in there?" He asked, pointing to the shrubs.

Jet shrugged his shoulders.

Teddie sighed, making a motion for Jet to follow him.

They both got in the car. Teddie looked at Jet. Jet looked down.

"Okay. Listen, man. You need to talk." Teddie said.

Jet pressed his lips together.

Teddie examined his expression. He looked dark and angsty. It was only amplified by his dripping wet hair and occasional shivers. Teddie started the car and started driving around the city. He figured that maybe that would calm jet down. He blasted the heat and reached into the back seat, grabbing a blanket. "Here." He said, handing it to Jet.

Jet took it quietly.

"This place I dropped you off at... Is that where you work?" Teddie asked.

Jet nodded.

"You know the owner?" Teddie asked.

Jet nodded again.

"Is he your friend?"

Jet shrugged.

"Is he someone you've known for a while?"

Jet nodded.
