After the service ended, Noah ran off to find his friends.
Micah, being much more introverted, stayed close to his dad and chatted with the guys his dad was talking to.
After a few minutes, Noah came running over to him.
"Dad!" Noah panted.
Juno was immersed in a conversation.
Noah tapped his arm.
"Wait." Juno said, briefly looking down.
Noah sighed and tapped his foot while he waited for a lull in the conversation.
Finally, Juno acknowledged him. "Yes, my boy?"
Noah excitedly spat out what he had been waiting to ask.
"Nathan said he's allowed to have a sleepover tonight, and he asked if I wanna come. His mom said I can bring my school stuff, and then they can take me and Nathan both to school in the morning!" Noah explained.
Juno shook his head. "You can go next weekend if you're good."
"What?!" Noah gasped, his shoulders falling. "Whyyyy?"
Juno took a step to the side, giving Noah his full attention. "Now's not the time to expect to be allowed to go to your friends house."
"Why?" Noah asked sadly.
"When you're a little kid and you do something wrong, it gets erased pretty quickly, but once you're older like you are now, you have to act in a way deserving of privileges. If you expect to be allowed to go to a friend's house, what should you do?"
"Be good?" Noah asked with a pout.
Juno nodded. "Yes. So be good next Sunday, and I'll allow you to go have fun with your friends."
"But I already got in trouble. Can I please go?" Noah whispered in a begging tone.
"No." Juno said, turning back to talk with the others.
Noah, ever a persistent kid, stood in front of his dad, holding at his waist. "Daddy, please!" He begged.
"No. Not after how you behaved." Juno said.
Noah pouted, releasing Juno with a huff.
He felt devastated. His dad was completely and totally unfair.
