Minam stood in the school washroom, giving himself a pep talk in the mirror.
"It's okay. It'll be fine. I can tell them the school just hasn't updated my grade yet..." He said to himself.
He leaned forward with both palms on the counter and let out a shaky breath that he didn't know he had been holding in.
"Who am I kidding? I'm about to get the worst scolding of my life." He whimpered, his lip starting to tremble.
He sniffled in the snot that was beginning to make It's way out his nose.
"Hajima!" He lectured himself. (Don't do it!)
"Don't be a cry baby." He said, trying to sound brave.
Just then, the washroom door swung open, and a group of boys walked toward the urinals, laughing and joking amongst themselves.
Minam turned and left.
He walked out the main doors and walked a few blocks to the bus stop.
*bzzz*
*bzzz*
His phone vibrated.
He unlocked it and checked his messages.
[Yah! Tell me why this app is saying you got 72% on this test!] - Eomma
[Mianhae] - Minam
[This is a glitch, right?] - Eomma
Minam gulped.
[No?] - Minam
[You want to get punished?] - Eomma
[I'll try harder next time!] - Minam
[Ppalli wa!] - Eomma (Come now!)
[Shiro] - Minam (I don't want to)
[It's going to be worse the longer you wait.] - Eomma
[Well, I'm never coming home then!] - Minam
[Yah... Don't make me call the husband.] - Eomma
[Call "the husband" then. I'm not coming home anyway. And I'm turning off my location. And I'm not going to school tomorrow.] - Minam
Minam nervously ran from the bus stop, knowing his sister would soon meet him there.
He ran a few blocks before feeling his phone vibrate again.
[I expect you to be waiting in your bedroom for a good lecture when I get home from work. You don't sass your Eomma like that. And you don't get a 72% on your tests.] - Appa
[I'm not coming home.] - Minam
[If you aren't home by the time I get back from work, then whenever you DO get home, you'll be getting a paddling and be sent straight to bed.] - Appa
Minam gulped and put his phone into his pocket.
He looked across the street and saw a P.C. bang. He made his way over and went in the door. He looked at his phone again. He had exactly an hour and a half to spend moping around here before he would have to go home if he wanted to get off with only a lecture.
Once inside, he was hit with the comforting aroma of ramen and kimbap. He went up to the counter and ordered a large bowl for himself.
He paid for his admission and sat down at one of the computers.
