Shawn's Pov:

At a bar on a random Wednesday, I gulp the remainder of my drink in one go. It's filled with chatter, but the odd, unexpected person I'm accompanied with, returns the same demeanor I'm giving him, killing all the joy in the atmosphere for me and sucking it all up for himself. I thought I'd never see this guy again, let alone even want to sit down with him.

Yet here we are, trying to make the most of it.

"So..." Now, I want to know why the universe tends to put me in these predicaments. We never actually got along, but knowing a bit of info that I know now, we shouldn't even have a problem. "...how's marriage been treating ya?" I start of another conversation.

"It has its moments, but wouldn't change it for the world." The body language tells me, he's exhausted, but not worn down. Maybe this is his much needed break.

"Kids?"

"One so far." Bro has a spawn now?

"Cool."

I swear I saw a tumbleweed blow by in front of us, maybe it was a piece of lint, due to how dry this conversation is. The waitress came over and wiped it off in a blink of an eye, then left us alone again, but not before sending my dear classmate a wink.

"So Shawny boy, I heard you dumped the Miss's when you left for the military." I knew he was going to bring that up, I just felt it coming. "Then turned around to marry Rebecca? What are you? An Idiot?"

Jack cackles loudly, hitting a hand on the bar we sit at, and our drinks shake. Thankfully, it's loud in here so no one cares but goddamn. I'm not sure what's funny about that. There wasn't even a punchline in his words.

"Oh, the irony." The blonde wipes his eyes that built up tears. "Phew, you're a funny guy. "

"What do you want, Jack?" I raise my hand to signal to the barista that I'd like another drink. If I'm going to be talking to this guy, I'm going to need to be detached.

"Oh, nothin'. Just wanted to see the man who was the talk of the town for over a year after findin' out his fiancée had a baby, THEN tried to trap you to be a step-daddy." This man is already hammered, and my life must be a joke to him.

"Well, now you see me."

"Oh, c'mon. Can't I enjoy this? I mean..."

"

"...look at you. You look miserable, man. I don't think you've ever been single this long, hell, you're never by yourself. The schools golden boy-the guy everyone wished to be and be with- sitting alone in a packed a bar with a frown carved on his face. What happened to you?"

"Honestly." Now this is some soul searching shit. Everything that's gone wrong in my life was all my fault. Yeah, my parents were the masterminds, but I saw each traps and stepped right into each one thinking I could dodge them. Fuck this, I came to drink my problems away for the night, not be reminded of them. Two weeks has passed since the shopping trip, and it's been killing me.
