Shawn's Pov:
I can't tell what's louder:
my heartbeat or my panting.
When Deon told me that my parents were in a car wreck, I hurried back to my old home, and was given the information by a neighbor what had happened. Was told which hospital they were in, and here I am now.
"Excuse me..." I pant leaning on the counter for a nurse. "...Cuse me, I'm here for the Edwards couple that were in a car accident." The words flow out in one go so I won't have to take any breaks. I've been sent to different departments and was finally pointed to the ER which was my first stop to begin with. I've been running around in circles at this point.
"Oh, yes, and you must be their son...?" She drags the 'n', questioning for my name while looking at the profile so I can confirm my identity.
"Yes, I'm Preston Edwards."
"Okay, yes. I'd like to notify the doctor that his special patients caretaker has arrived to discuss their reports." The nurse, I'll call her fluffy because of her hair, gives me a sad look in her eyes. "Please have a seat, and the doctor will be with you in a couple of seconds."
This hospital is the same one I was sent to after I was stabbed. It's a regular hospital but the higher your status, the better the treatment you receive. I'm not surprised my parents are special patients and are being treated only a couple hours after arriving here.
"Mr. Edwards?" The doctor made his appearance in the waiting room where I was seated. His glasses hung low on the bridge of his nose. His hair was sticking out in all directions.
"Yes, sir." I urgently shot on my feet meeting the doctor halfway in the room. I held a hand out for him to shake remembering my manners even at a time like this. "I'm Preston Edwards."
"Mr. Edwards, I'd like to start off by saying your parents surgery were a success. Your father is in a comatose state, so we'll be keeping him here longer to keep an eye on him. I must say, he was in far worst shape than he looked when he arrived. Your mother is awake, but she isn't able to speak right now." The doctor was flipping through his charts while speaking with me.
"Based on the report from the police, neither were wearing a seatbelt, so they have many cuts and scratches due to glass, and your father flying through the window. I have to say, we'll be keeping a close eye on them and their results. Enjoy time with your father and mother, their recovery won't be an easy one. I'm very sorry." The doctor gave me a pat on my back, feeling sorry for me.
"May I see them?" My eye plead with the doctor to allow me to see them at this time. They must be in so much pain, and just scared.
"I can make an exception for you." Money, of course. "Your parents are in the same room so that it may be easier to care for. Is that okay with you?" Oh, yeah, I get the final say for their care.
"Yes, that'll be perfect."
The doctor led me down to a fancy, organized hallway. The anticipation is killing me and I wanted to see them now, to see if they're okay.
"This is their room."
"Thank you, Doctor." I give the man a soft sad smile, then softly knock on the door. I completely forgot no one will be able to respond so I ended up just opening the door and letting myself in.
I must say...
It was an ugly sight indeed.
My mother is completely unrecognizable. Stitches are lines across her face that's all swollen and bruised up. My father in a bed next to her, face bruised up to the size of baseballs, and scrapes everywhere. He looks like he was attack by a whole nest of wasps.
