Shawn's Pov:
I've never felt so love the way I do now watching my friends (and Crust) shake my car trying to squeeze in it. I have yet to stop laughing at them, silently of course, because for some reason this is a serious issue that's to be solved.
"Megan, you think you can make some room for me?"
"I'm already squished against the door."
"Monica, you can ride in your husband's car." Beatrice, who came from out of nowhere, says sticking her head in the car. I still hardly know this lady, and maybe I'm just getting used to change and shit, but it's very odd. To think the Coiya and Anthony replacements trying to fit in my car are people I hardly know.
"No."
"Beatrice, did you transfer here?" I ask wondering what she's doing here, and no one made a peep about her climbing in my car.
"Oh, yeah." She answers so casually but her country accent still thick. "Glad to be back home?" She asks, and I nod my head.
"Megan, maybe we should switch seats." Deon points out Megan's discomfort with her boyfriend pressed against her, and Monica squished into him, and Beatrice hanging halfway out the car.
"Damn, we really used to do this every day after school." Megan comments while climbing out the door. "It was easier back then." Deon laughs at the comment, then talks with Monica and Beatrice.
"It's okay, baby." Chucky comforts her leaning into the front seat space so she can hear him, and rubs on her shoulder from the backseat. "We've all gone through changes."
I watch the exchange from the corner of my eyes, waiting for everyone to get settled. There's no telling what that was supposed to mean, but in my ears, maybe I'm biased, it sounded backhanded, almost patronizing.
Meg's eyes look at him for a few seconds before she turns in her seat to look out her window, and absentmindedly, sticks her arms in her shirt pushing it out making it look fluffed.
"I think everyone looks great." I say out loud so those who were talking could hear me, doubt hearing what he said or maybe didn't take it the way I did. "Some more than others."
I didn't need to look at her to know she was looking at me. It felt thrilling that I'm being this way. To think last night, I told myself that I was going to be respectful, but when I saw him in her room last night sleeping after the beating she put me through...
I knew I could have a chance again.
And this Christopher is making it so much easier, the more he opens his mouth. Well, at least, to me since I guess I make what he says to be negative from the jump.
"So, you promised me a date." Deon says, and I look in my rearview mirror to see him batting his eyelashes making me laugh. "When and where?"
Rewind:
"This is your new school?" I spin in a circle looking at the main building with the biggest chandelier I've ever seen.
"Technically, I've been here longer than Miradine." Megan fact checks me.
"Aw, yes. That is indeed true." I beam a smile, feeling excited to see my best friend, who is on campus for Monica and Jonah to fix their car while they were in class. We had already been to the car and he wasn't there so he must be with Mo, so here we are outside her classroom waiting for it end.
