From that moment on Severus and I hadn't spoken about what had happened that night. I had no idea how I would convince Harry to kill his own godmother and I grew nauseous any time I thought about it. Severus had been sitting in on all of my classes and Amycus was growing nervous as he thought he was in trouble. Little did he know Severus was reluctant to leave my side since that night unless absolutely necessary.

Things were growing increasingly dark and I could feel the students' hopes diminishing. Neville had gone into hiding, Ginny hadn't returned after Easter, and Luna was with Bill and Fleur at Shell Cottage. The remainder of Dumbledore's army was dwindling by the second-.

I was pulled from my thoughts as I heard Amycus cast the Imperius charm on a student.

"That's enough!" I hissed, disarming him.

"What the hell is with you, Y/l/n?" Amycus shouted. "You've had your head in the clouds all day and now you're interfering with my teaching."

"Oh, please," I scoffed. "This isn't teaching. It's torture. They aren't learning anything by watching this and the student you've imperioed certainly won't remember the proper completion of the spell. You'd be far better suited to let them practice on one of us or to have us practice on each other. Unless you're scared." I smirked as he swallowed thickly. Severus pulled his wand from his robes and looked to me for permission, to which I nodded.

I trust you.

"Imperio," I heard Severus mutter and the familiar calm washed over as a smile spread across my face. My body turned toward Amycus.

"Fuck you," I laughed. I was turned back around and my hand waved in the air of its own accord as Severus explained.

"During the spell the caster controls their subject's actions."

I waved my hand and smacked Amycus on the back of the head as the students stifled their laughter.

"Advanced minds can train to fight it off, though it is extremely difficult and takes a great deal of energy." He turned to me, nodding and I began to struggle against the calm washing over my body. He tried to raise my hand and I forced it down, closing my eyes tightly. I could feel Severus in my mind, searching for any sign of discomfort in case I wished him to stop. After a few moments he dropped his wand and held out his arms as I collapsed against him and he held me upright.

"Are you alright?"

I nodded and he steadied me before letting go of my arms as the door swung open and Avery ran into the room.

"Headmaster, I need you, Y/n, and Amycus to come with me urgently."

"Avery, what's happened?"

He looked around at the students before returning his gaze to me. "I'm sorry, my Lady... but we cannot speak of this here."

"Class dismissed," I called to the students. "Return to your dormitories and await further instructions."

We left the classroom with Avery and he led us into the hallway away from prying eyes.

"He's been spotted, Headmaster... in Hogsmeade," he said, breathlessly. "Potter," he added.

"Summon the students and staff to the Great Hall," Severus hissed. Avery and Amycus scurried away as Severus grabbed my hand and pulled me toward him. He brought his hand to my face.

"Everything is going to change, love... if Potter enters the castle and a fight breaks out... we can't be seen together." He pressed his forehead to mine. "I love you so much... Promise me that no matter what happens you will always remember that."

I grabbed his hand, pressing my lips to his fingers. "Promise me you won't do anything stupid, baby... please. Promise me you'll move on. Promise me you'll find something to live for."

"No," he growled, pulling me impossibly closer. "Don't you dare say that."

"Sev, we both know how this ends. It's me or everyone else's lives, baby."

"I pick you."

"Don't say that, Sev. You don't mean it."

"I do," he growled, turning me around and pressing me against the wall. "I lost you for years because I was foolish and joined a cause I didn't believe in. I'm not losing you again!"

"Sev, we have to say goodbye."

"No." His voice was softer now, almost pleading with me as he buried his face in my neck.

"Sev, look at me." I lifted his face and his eyes were filled with tears. "I need you here... Harry won't understand what's happening and he'll need you to explain things."

"The boy will never trust me."

"He will," I promised him. "You're smart, Sev. I know you'll figure out what to do. Please, just promise me you'll move on."

He shook his head. "Never. I will never move on from you."

I pressed my lips to his, kissing him softly before slightly pulling away. "Just remember my words, Severus.... when everything settles... I want you to be happy."

"I was happy," he replied sadly.

I said nothing more and simply kissed him again. We heard the shuffling of feet and we pulled away from each other as the students began making their way to the Great Hall in a silent huddle. His hand slipped from mine as we wiped our tears and moved toward the Great Hall without another word.
