"In a world of wolves, he found a family that would protect him—no matter the cost."
The forest was quiet, filled only with the rustling of leaves and the distant sound of birdsong. Minho and Jisung lay side by side in the clearing, their sleek wolf forms basking in a rare patch of sunlight. Jisung gave a low huff, stretching out on the grass.
"I swear," Jisung said through their mind link, "if another squirrel throws a pinecone at me, I'm going to climb that tree and—"
Minho snorted. "You can't climb a tree in wolf form."
"Then I'll shift. Just to throw it back."
Minho rolled his eyes but froze as the sound of tires screeching pierced through the trees, followed by something heavy being flung. A loud thud, then the sound of tumbling—something rolling down the embankment just a few feet from where they rested.
"What the hell was that?" Jisung asked, ears flicking toward the sound.
Minho was already on his feet, hackles raised. He padded toward the edge of the embankment and peered down.
There, in a twisted heap of limbs and blood-stained clothes, was a small body.
Minho jumped down without hesitation, sniffing carefully. The scent hit him like a blow—sweet, vulnerable, and unmistakably omega.
"Jisung," he growled through the link, urgent now. "Call the others. Get Seungmin. Now."
Jisung's tone shifted instantly. "On it."
As Jisung howled into the sky, Minho nudged the body gently with his snout. The omega whimpered, barely conscious. His hair was matted with blood and dirt, but even through the mess, Minho could see soft blond strands and a freckled face. His scent was weak, his heartbeat slow.
Within minutes, the sound of paws thundered through the trees. The rest of the pack arrived—Chan leading, massive and imposing, eyes already narrowed in concern. Changbin and Hyunjin flanked him, while Jeongin and Seungmin came from the opposite side.
"Over here!" Jisung barked, shifting quickly. "He's alive but barely."
Chan shifted as he jogged the last few steps. "What happened?"
"Thrown from a car," Minho said grimly. "He rolled down. I think he was conscious until just now."
Chan crouched beside the omega, his scent immediately saturating the air. He reached out to gently brush dirt from the boy's face.
That's when it happened.
The omega's eyes fluttered open, icy blue and dazed. For one heartbeat, he looked directly at Chan—eyes locking, breath hitching.
Chan's body stiffened.
"Mate," he whispered, the word ripped from his chest before he even understood it.
Then his alpha instinct surged forward and he tipped his head back, a deafening howl rising from his throat, echoing through the forest.
Everyone went still.
Minho stepped back, shocked. Jisung blinked, wide-eyed. Changbin grabbed Hyunjin's hand instinctively. Jeongin stared at the boy like he'd never seen anything like him. Seungmin, however, was already moving, snapping into healer mode.
"Help me move him," Seungmin said, kneeling beside the boy. "I need to stop the bleeding before we move him."
Chan was still frozen, pupils blown wide, chest heaving.
"Chan," Hyunjin said softly. "We need to move him. Let Seungmin work."
Chan blinked like he was waking up. He nodded slowly and stood. "Help him. I'll carry him back."
