"In a world of shadows, love is the light that guides them home."

The scent of fresh blood clung to the air, thick and suffocating. Chan stepped over a broken chair, his sharp eyes scanning the wreckage of the living room. The bodies of Felix's parents lay motionless, their blood pooling into the cracks of the wooden floor.

"They're gone," Minho announced, his tone clipped. He stood near the shattered window, his gaze fixed on the dark forest beyond. "The rogues must have taken off before we got here."

"That's a problem," Jisung muttered, crouching beside one of the bodies. "They don't usually leave witnesses. Why run?"

"They were interrupted," Hyunjin said, his golden eyes flickering. "They didn't expect anyone else to show up. I tried to skim their thoughts, but they were already too far by the time we got here."

Chan exhaled sharply. "Then they know someone survived."

Seungmin straightened from where he had been inspecting the broken security system. "The only survivor is the kid."

They all turned toward Felix.

The blonde sat against the farthest wall, his knees pulled to his chest, his entire body trembling. His freckled face was pale, his blue eyes darting between the strangers in his house. Blood speckled his skin, his hands shaking as they gripped the fabric of his pants.

"He's in shock," Minho observed.

"Good," Chan said. "That'll make this easier." He turned to Jeongin. "Do it."

Jeongin stepped forward hesitantly, crouching in front of Felix. The human flinched at the movement but didn't pull away.

Jeongin met Felix's wide, fearful gaze and let his power settle over him like a blanket.

"You didn't see them," he murmured. "You didn't see us. You will forget this night."

Felix stared at him. His breath hitched. But nothing changed.

Jeongin frowned. He pushed harder, letting his power flow through his voice. "Forget."

Felix's lips parted, but he didn't blink. His expression didn't go hazy, didn't lose focus the way it should have. Instead, his fingers twitched at his sides, as if he wanted to sign something.

Jeongin's stomach twisted.

"It's not working," he murmured, barely audible.

Chan stiffened. "What?"

Jeongin swallowed hard, forcing himself to try one more time. He reached out, brushing his fingers against Felix's temple.

"Sleep," he commanded.

Felix's eyes fluttered, his body swaying.

For a second, Jeongin thought it worked.

But then Felix's fingers moved again, slow and shaky.

Hyunjin, watching closely, inhaled sharply. "'It won't work,'" he translated, his voice barely above a whisper.

Silence.

Chan's jaw clenched. "We don't have time for this. Minho?"

Minho flicked his fingers, and Felix's body slumped over, unconscious.

Jeongin's hands curled into fists. "What if—"

"We leave," Chan interrupted. "Make it look like an animal attack. If the rogues come back, they'll assume he knows nothing."

Jeongin hesitated for a beat longer, his gaze lingering on Felix's unconscious form.

Then, without another word, the brothers disappeared into the night.
