"He thought he was chasing a dream, but found a family... and a forever."
The practice room echoed with the heavy thud of music and feet. It was the third week of auditions, and the members of Stray Kids were sprawled around the room, some leaning against mirrors, others slumped on the floor, all looking a little too tired for the early hour.
"I swear, if the next guy does another BTS cover, I'm going to combust," Jisung muttered, flopping onto his back.
Hyunjin snorted. "BTS is great, but can we get some originality?"
"Or someone who knows what Stray Kids even sounds like," Seungmin added dryly, sipping his water.
Chan sat cross-legged near the speaker, brows furrowed in concentration as he scrolled through the audition notes on his tablet. "We've got a few more today. Don't give up yet."
"You've already rejected twenty-seven people, hyung," Jeongin said, raising an eyebrow. "Are you sure you're not just being picky?"
"I'm not looking for a dancer or a rapper," Chan said quietly. "I'm looking for someone who fits. Someone who wants to be part of a family."
Just then, the door creaked open and the staff ushered in the next contestant.
"Contestant number 28. Felix Lee, age 23, from Sydney, Australia."
Chan's head shot up. "Australia?"
Felix stepped inside, his sandy-blond hair slightly tousled, his nervous smile wavering as seven pairs of eyes fixed on him. He gave a small bow. "Hello, I'm Felix."
The group murmured greetings, intrigued by the accent that matched their leader's. Chan tilted his head slightly, watching with silent curiosity.
Felix handed over a USB. "I'll be performing 'Thunderous'... if that's okay."
Everyone blinked. Jisung sat up straight. "Wait—our 'Thunderous'?"
"You're doing our song?" Minho asked, blinking.
Felix rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah. I thought... if I want to be part of your group, I should show you how serious I am about it."
Chan looked at the staff and nodded. "Play it."
The moment the beat dropped, Felix transformed. Every move was sharp, precise, confident. His deep voice punched through the air when he rapped, and when he danced—it wasn't perfect, but it had something raw and passionate. The room had gone silent, everyone sitting up, eyes locked on him.
By the time the song ended, Felix was panting, hands on his knees, sweat dripping from his brow. He looked up, chest heaving, eyes searching nervously for a reaction.
Silence.
Then—
"Holy crap," Jisung breathed.
"Did you see that pop in the chorus?" Hyunjin whispered to Seungmin.
Minho let out a low whistle. "He's got fire."
Chan stood up slowly and walked over. Felix straightened, trying not to look too eager or scared.
"You said you're from Sydney?" Chan asked.
"Yes," Felix nodded. "I moved to Seoul a few months ago. I've been training on my own. I've always wanted to be a part of something like this."
Chan stared at him for a long moment.
"What's your reason?" he asked quietly.
Felix blinked. "Sorry?"
