"When the last hope of night is a human heart, even immortality must kneel to love."
"Fifteen days," Chan muttered, pacing the stone floor of the ancient hall, boots echoing in the silence. "Fifteen days until the full moon ritual, and we have no idea who or where Jeongin's mate is."
Hyunjin sat perched on the edge of the long table, fingers drumming anxiously. "How can we find a single soul out of billions? He could be anywhere."
"He's human," Seungmin said, crossing his arms. "The prophecy was clear. A mortal heart to tether our eternal youngest."
Jeongin shifted uncomfortably in his chair, fidgeting with the silver ring Nyx had gifted him when he turned his first thousand. "What if it's wrong? What if there is no mate?"
"Don't say that," Minho snapped, sharper than intended. His eyes softened when Jeongin flinched. "Sorry. But you know what's at stake. If you don't find your mate by the ritual... we cease to exist."
"All vampires," Changbin added grimly. "Not just us. Every single one. Erased from time. Like we never were."
"But how can love be forced on a deadline?" Jeongin's voice was barely a whisper. "What if I find them and they don't want me?"
Chan stopped pacing. "They will. If fate carved this path, then it must lead to someone who is meant for you."
"And if it doesn't?" Jisung asked, leaning against a column. "What if fate screws us?"
"Then I'll burn the stars myself before I let you fade," Minho said, voice low, deadly certain.
Hyunjin gave a weak laugh. "We've faced werewolf wars, hunters, centuries of bloodshed... and it's love that might end us."
Seungmin glanced out the arched window, moonlight beginning to bleed into the sky. "Nyx always favored him. She must know something. Maybe we're just not looking in the right place."
"Where haven't we looked?" Changbin asked.
"Maybe we don't need to look," Jeongin murmured, standing slowly. His voice had that eerie calm the others recognized from prophecy dreams. "Maybe... he's already looking for me."
Silence fell like ash.
Chan walked over and placed a hand on Jeongin's shoulder. "Do you feel something?"
"I've had dreams," Jeongin said. "But I thought they were just that. Dreams. His eyes are golden. Like sunlight. He calls my name like he's always known me. I don't even know if he's real."
"What else?" Minho asked.
"He smells like cinnamon and warmth. I wake up and it's like I'm not cold anymore. Like I remember what it felt like to be alive."
Jisung whistled. "That sounds real enough to me."
"And where does the dream end?" Seungmin asked.
Jeongin blinked, then smiled faintly. "Under the Sydney sky."
Hyunjin straightened. "Australia?"
Chan met Minho's eyes. "We leave before sundown."
"And what if it's a dead end?" Changbin said.
"Then we keep looking," Chan said. "Until we find him. Or until we die trying."
Jeongin stepped forward, voice stronger than before. "No one's dying. Not if I can help it. I'm going to find him."
"And when you do?" Minho asked quietly.
"I'll make him fall in love with me," Jeongin said, grinning now. "Even if he runs. Even if he's scared. Even if he's human."
