thursday.
"thanks again for picking crystal up from school." andie thanked calum through the phone and smiled to herself.
"no problem, really. i have to go, talk to you later." calum said as he hung up.
andie put her small bag on the floor and took her bottom lip between her teeth. she climbed down the fire escape and was met by a tall figure smiling down at her.
"hey." he greeted her, with his arms crossed over his chest.
"what do you want?" she said blankly, walking past by him.
"don't be like that." the boy chuckled and grabbed her arm with careness. "i just wanted to ask you something."
"of course you did, jake. what is it?" she half smiled, crossing her arms underneath her chest.
"i'm about to play basketball but i have no one to play with. you up for it?" jake sent her a crooked smile and waited for a reply.
"sure. why not?" she shrugged and started walking towards a public basketball court.
andie kicked on a rock as they walked and searched for the basketball with her eyes. there was always one behind the container in the corner.
"so how have you been?" he asked, sliding his hands down his pockets.
"i've been... okay, i guess." she shrugged before grabbing the ball, and then bounced it against the ground.
"where's crystal?" jake asked, moving towards her to get the ball. andie spun around to prevent him from doing so, and threw it in the hoop.
"with a friend." she shortly responded and bit on her lower lip.
"that calum guy?"
andie frowned at him and crossed her arms, letting the ball be passed to jake. the last time she had spoken to jake was a while ago, but they've sure had an acquaintance for a very long time now.
"you remember more than i thought." she laughed quietly and raised her eyebrows.
"well, yeah. we're not exactly strangers." he stated, and after that, they properly played some basketball.
andie scored the most, probably because jake hasn't played in a while, but she didn't win with too many points more than him. she made a little victory dance — which he simply rolled his eyes at — and shot the ball straight forward, towards his chest. he caught it and checked the time on his phone.
"hey, i need to ask you for a favor, and it's rather selfish of me." andie informed him, gazing down at the asphalt ground.
"i'm listening." jake almost yelled when he put the ball back behind the container.
"so... i know we haven't really hung out together in a while but i need you to pretend to be my boyfriend." she told him bluntly, moving her foot in circles.
jake remained silent for a while until a huge smirk spread across his face. andie glared at him and nudged him to get an answer already.
"what mess have you gotten yourself in now?" he asked, throwing an arm around her shoulders.
"i'm not in a mess. i just had a moment of panic." she muttered and started walking back home.
"aw, tell me why i'm probably pretending to be in a relationship with you."
