andie.
~:~
sunday.
the little store was rather empty of people, and the cashier stood tiredly behind the counter.
andie scanned all the movies she passed, read the titles, the backside description and sauntered around in search for one specific movie.
the little bell above the door rang as someone entered, and she spared a second to look up at a familiar person entering. she didn't know her name, nor anything else about her, but she was a standard customer too.
as andie focused her attention on the movies again, her ears heard a man approach the customer and talk to her. at first it was quietly, so no words were comprehensible to her, but then they started to raise them a pitch or so.
with a frown, she averted her eyes back up, noticing how another employee had walked up the the girl, asking to see her bag. she glanced around herself, but no one else seemed to even be fazed by the small argument going on between the two by the entrance.
andie slowly made her way over there out of curiosity and crossed her arms against her chest.
"why do you need to search through my bag?" the girl asked confused and peered over at andie.
"just let me look through it and we don't have to stand here anymore." the man stated.
andie's face dropped and she instantly felt angry over the man. her feet dragged her over there, and in a second she was standing beside the girl.
"excuse me sir, but you have no right to go through her bag." she pointed out and raised her eyebrows slightly.
"don't get involved, child." the man muttered, frustrated, and eyed the dark skinned girl beside andie.
"that lady has a bag too. why didn't you insist on going through hers?" andie retorted while pointing at an older woman walking through the store.
"didn't i tell you to beat it?"
"is that really how you communicate with a customer?" the girl commented with a fake confused face.
"just let me look through it!" the man exclaimed at the same time as he tried to reach for the strap of the bag.
"hey." andie said loudly and pushed her hand against the man's chest, holdig him back without struggling that much.
"excuse me, is there a problem here?" the cashier suddenly joined them and gazed at the man with wide eyes.
"no."
"yes."
the cashier eyed them and then the man, shaking her head slightly as if in disapproval.
"mr. miller, you might be new here, but you won't be staying for too long if i see any of this bullshit again. leave the girls alone. we will not tolerate any harassing because of someone's goddamn skin color."
and with that, mr. miller cursed under his breath before leaving the scene. the cashier sighed and sent the two girls an apologetic look.
"thank you." the girl mumbled and glanced up at andie.
"i'm very sorry. i know you, you come here often. please, come in." the cashier smiled tiredly before placing herself behind the counter again.
andie walked back to where she stood earlier and searched for the right movie. the girl walked over to her, but stood to the opposite and pursed her lips.
