wednesday.

"i want chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, lemon..." crystal rambled on, using all her fingers to count the amount of flavors she mentioned.

andie grimaced out of pure disgust when imagining all those ice cream flavors morphed together. she shook her head and folded her arms together under her chest.

"that sounds gross, crys." she then laughed when her sister finished with a proud grin — but that faded once the words left andie's mouth.

"you're such a downer." crystal pouted and kicked on a rock.

andie merely laughed while opening the door to the ice cream shop, allowing the soon to be ten year old to step inside first.

crystal sat down by their usual booth, and so did andie. they gazed at each other before andie pursed her lips and checked the time on her phone.

"it's your birthday in..." she paused, having to remember the time and count it out. "forty seven minutes."

crystal smiled warmly and tucked some hair behind her ear. andie frowned slightly and tilted her head to the side, examining the face of her sister.

"i hate this song." crystal suddenly uttered and looked up at andie with a smirk.

"yeah, me too." andie laughed and listened to the over-played radio song.

"is calum coming today?" crystal asked carefully, fiddling a little with the hem of her shirt. andie smiled sadly at her.

"no, i don't think so. but luke is, if that's okay." she quickly covered the fact that calum wasn't coming. especially not when luke was.

"of course it's okay. i just wish calum would come too, you know." crystal sighed before smiling unconvincingly.

"do you want ice cream now?" andie asked, receiving a head nod back.

so she placed a quick kiss on crystal's head before standing up and walking over to the counter. she bought two cups for each of them, smiling at the familiar cashier and sitting down again.

they started off by eating in silence, until crystal couldn't refrain from speaking of her day. and frankly, andie was glad she did; she wanted to know.

the little bell above the door rang, indicating someone had entered. and that someone was luke, but to andie's surprise, with a sauntering calum behind him. andie almost gaped and dropped all the ice cream from her mouth. thankfully, she didn't.

"am i late?" luke laughed when he noticed her expression and sat down to the opposite of her, holding a bag in his hand.

crystal was just about to squeal at the sight of calum, but he put a finger against his lips, and andie firmly clutched her thigh under the table. crystal shut her mouth and looked at andie with a questioning expression.

"no, you're not. what's calum doing here?" andie laughed a little and while luke automatically glanced behind his shoulder, andie leaned in to whisper to her sister.

"play pretend. we don't know calum, you've never met him before." she quickly whispered, and crystal nodded slowly, obviously still confused.

"well, he was bored and had nothing to do. besides, there can't ever be too many people at a birthday party, right?" luke grinned and directed his eyes at crystal instead. "happy birthday."

"thank you." crystal smiled softly and finished her ice cream quickly.

calum sat down beside luke and pulled some fingers through his hair. he discreetly sent andie a wink, but at the same time an apologetic look. it was a strange combination, but she understood it.
