andie.

tuesday.
"how's school?" her father asked while drinking from his coffee cup.
"i'm not up for some dry talking, dads."
andie shot her dad a glance as she put the milk back in the fridge. they spoke quietly, since crystal was still sleeping. she seized a spoon and searched for the cereal.
"you and that attitude." he muttered.
"you always ask the same questions. school's good, it's never been bad. you don't really care, you just want to talk."
"well, you haven't exactly been home much lately." he commented, glancing at her.
andie sighed quietly in annoyance and made a bowl of cereal for crystal. she ruffled her own hair quickly and rolled her eyes.
"why would i want to spend my time here? you should be happy i'm actually friends with people."
"i am happy about that. but you're also a big sister, and leaving crystal isn't exactly—"
"oh, bite me." she cut him off and turned around. "you are in no position to talk about being a good role model, when all you do is drowning your sorrow with alcohol and yelling at me. believe me, i know i'm a big sister. but you're her father, and you have your responsibilities too."
"not that tone, young lady. i know i'm not flawless, but you're giving me more shit than i deserve."
"trust me." she laughed bitterly and glared at him. "i give mom just as much shit."
"i doubt that."
"if you're going to doubt what i'm saying, then i won't even continue this conversation." she stated and started eating her breakfast.
"i'm not doubting what you're saying, andie. but you're not telling me everyting either. for example, i haven't even met this boyfriend of yours."
andie froze, completely forgetting how chad had dropped by once, and swallowed. she gazed down at her feet and moved them, trying to compose herself.
"why would i bring him here, to a shithole that i call home?" she muttered and looked at him.
"because i'm your father, that's why! don't you think he should introduce himself? or are you too busy wasting all your time?"
"don't yell! in case you forgot, your daughter is still sleeping." she hissed back and stared at him with her cold eyes.
her father sighed and rubbed his face with his hands, obviously morning tired and worn out from all the similar arguments they've had.
"what do you expect with this boy, hm? a fun time until school ends? it's not like it'll work, considering all your differences. you still have to sort your life, unless you want to end up like me."
"believe me, i'd never end up like you. no offense, dad, but you're pathetic. i may have the worst childhood and living, but i'm not pathetic. this guy — whose name is luke, by the way — is not just a distraction for fun. i happen to like the guy a lot, and yes, we're different, but we're solid. sort of." she cocked her head to the side by the end and sighed through her nose.
"did you just call me pathetic? is that how you speak to your parent?"
"i was just being honest, and you're not much of a dad. how do you think crystal feels about all this? about your alcohol problems, the disgusting smell in here, having no mom to take care of her? you talk so much about me being a horrible sister, but you haven't even seen your own reflection. congrats, you're the father of the year!" she scoffed and raised her hands in the air, accidentally raising her voice.
