Being a tour manager was fun, but it had it’s disadvantages. Like you were the one who had a large say in which bands came on tour. Which was great for the bands you picked but I always felt guilty when I had to turn other bands away even if they were really good.
That’s why this morning I had to drag myself out of bed and tow ims to the record company. The receptionist there was new, and by the look on her face she did not approve of my black skinnys, grey shirt and cardigan combination. What did she expect? Short stack aren’t old, their tour guy shouldn’t be old either and if she thought i’d wear a suit she was dreaming.
She did let us through after a bit of persuading that I was really Shaun Jennings, not some strange imposter guy.
The bands had already been chosen for me, now I just had to pick the best one; which was kinda difficult as I had never heard of any of them.
They were all surprisingly young, a few members looking like they were still in school but after they introduced themselves and played their demo tapes imogen helped me decide on the youngest looking band that had the bounciest music.
Their name was because they can, and they were all pretty nice and looked like the type of guys that young teenagers would come to a concert just to look at them. Yes I admit that they were attractive despite the fact I was totally straight and what’s more had my girlfriend sitting right next to me holding my hand. She had only been back a short time and sometimes if you looked fast enough when she wasn’t prepared you could still see the look of pure ecstasy in her eyes.
The tour was starting in just over a week, despite the fact that short stack had just finished a tour, this one was a rural tour, stopping in at country places that had a high enough demand and a few special shows in other states just to be fair.
When we waved goodbye to the because they can boys and left the studio it turned out that just over 2 hours had passed since we went in there and it was early afternoon. It was a cloudy day and the wind was picking up, blowing the salt in off the beach and covering my car. To be different we ended up having a picnic dressed up in my backyard with tea and sandwiches with funny fillings; pretending to be characters from alice in wonderland.
It was like the relationship had started all over again, we were as passionate and shy as new lovers but I loved her so much more after the break we had. The cut was healing, although everytime I glanced at it she blushed and hid her arm.
We picnicked for about an hour before the rain kicked it and forced us to go inside.
Instead we watched movies and stuffed our faces with homemade toffee popcorn, laughing and curled up together.
