Candice's POV~

I woke up around five thirty and lazily made my way to the bathroom. This is the one moment that I hated the most! Who likes to leave the warmth and comfort of their bed and walk across the cold room and into a bathroom that's even more cool? I know for a fact that I don't! I took a shower and allowed myself to relax under the warm water. Proceeding to brushing my teeth and stepping out. Then it was time to look for my work attire. Not much time was spent here as I chose a tight, dark gray skirt that reached my knees, a navy blue silk blouse and a dark gray blazer. Which was then followed by me tucking my blouse inside my skirt. slipping on a pair of navy blue heels and blow drying my hair leaving it in its natural waves. I applied a tiny amount of make up and lip gloss, clipped my work identification on my blazer and quickly gave myself a glance in the floor length mirror.

Satisfied with my appearance I made my way downstairs and towards the kitchen. Scrambled eggs and bacon would be our breakfast along with some pancakes. Only but a few minutes later and I was already serving two plates of food as Nancy came down the stairs.

Nancy took her coffee mug and sipped quietly.

I took in her appearance. She was dressed similar as me . Except her suit was black and her blouse was white. I let my eyes roam over her body and then I looked back at her face. She always seemed so grim in the mornings. Of course that was understandable now. Every morning she had to be dealing with headaches due to her hangovers. If she still got them, I mean.

I took a seat and proceeded to eat my breakfast. Nancy did so as well. I observed her as she ate silently. My mind automatically suggesting the question that has forever been on my mind.

What on earth happened to the cheerful, bubbly girl that I once fell in love with?

She abruptly stood up and headed inside the kitchen to place her plate on the dishwasher machine. Not bothered at all, I continued eating my food.

It was always this way in the mornings. Silently eating our breakfast. Ignoring each others presence and acting as if it didn't bother us at all. Of course it bothered me though. Whatever went on in Nancy's head meanwhile, that I didn't know.

The front door merely opened and closed and then I heard the faint sound of Nancy's car pulling out of the driveway.

I let out a very exasperated and tired sigh. I was so full of this miserable life already. I placed my now empty dishes in the dishwasher machine, grabbed my car keys and bag, quickly making sure to lock the front door before I headed off to work.

"You've been doing a wonderful job Mrs. O'stenner, and I am happy to inform you of your promotion. Your job schedule may become a bit hectic for you, so we've assigned you an upperclassmen partner. She will help you get used to your new responsibilities. But there is also one other thing. Before you begin in your new working area, our boss requests a private dinner with all of the employees that will be promoted. Your private dinner will be scheduled during this week. I'll email the date, time and address later. Any questions?" My manager explained.

I smiled happily. I got a promotion? It truly was unbelievable. I couldn't wait to share the news with my family. My mother was sure to plan some sort of celebratory dinner. Nancy would surely get home wasted so I wouldn't be able to share my accomplishment with her until morning.

I let out a small sigh as I pushed all thoughts of Nancy to the back of my head. I just got a promotion and I wasn't going to let anything ruin my day.

"No ma'am. When will I begin to explore my new field job?" I asked eagerly.

"You may begin now." She gave me a bright smile.
