Emerald POV~
I was right.
Ivette was fast asleep by the time I got home.
Of course she would, I thought, it was already twelve and her bedtime was at nine, ten at most.
I decided to watch some TV because I wasn't feeling sleepy yet.
What scared the hell out of me though was my mother. Who was calmly sitting on my leather sofa in the living room with her legs crossed and a magazine on her lap.
Let me just tell you that her gaze was far from being calm. It was more like the northern glaciers in coldness and fiercer than an erupting volcano.
"Mother?" I squeaked. "What are you doing here?"
"Emerald Isabel Perez, let's cut straight to the point." My mother addressed me by my full name. "Sit."
I followed her order and took a seat across from her. I was confused. Confused as to what my mother wanted to talk to me about in the middle of the night. Confused as to why she seemed so hostile towards me that she couldn't even muster a smile and confused as to why she was rewarding me with a disapproving look.
No, not disapproving. More like disgusted.
I was in deep trouble.
"Explain to me what this is because I can't seem to comprehend it."
She threw the magazine at me and I quickly caught it before it hit me in the face. Who knew my mother could be so aggressive?
I glared at my mother before glancing at the already opened magazine that my mother oh-so-nicely handed me. It was an article. About whom?
Me, of course.
The headline was the main thing that caught my attention.
Billionaire Emerald Perez caught in a late night rendezvous with a married woman!!!
Below the headline was a few unclear pictures of me and what had to be Candice. It was taken at the beach during nighttime. I easily recalled that night where I had taken Candice there to 'talk'. In one of the pictures we were walking alongside each other and in the next three we were in more intimate positions. I didn't read the article because what really caught my attention was a picture of Candice and Nancy. I had no idea where it was taken but I assumed it was the day Candice had went out to talk with Nancy about the divorce.
Candice was leaning against her car and Nancy was a few steps away.
"Explain to me what this is Emerald." My mother instantly demanded.
"It's not what it looks like." I began.
"Of course it's not!" My mother sarcastically bit out. "You do realize those were the exact same words your father used on me when I caught him cheating?"
"Don't you dare compare me to him, because this is nothing like that!" I yelled back as I shot out of my seat.
"How is it not?!"
I pinched the bridge of my nose and I forced myself to calm down. Raising our voices at each other wouldn't help the situation, it'd only make it worse if anything. Besides, I didn't want to end up waking Ivette.
