Candice POV~

"You should seriously consider turning that frown upside down because it's really unbecoming." Audrey casually piped up. "I can't have this type of bad aura around me. It drowns out my good vibes."

I snorted in an unladylike fashion, causing Audrey to give me a disgusted look.

"You sound like a flower child." I responded to her previous comment.

"A what?"

"A hippie."

"Well I am all about that peace, love and getting high off my sh–"

"Shut up Audrey. We both know you would never even touch a blunt."

"I'd touch a c-nt though. I'm sure you can get high off of that as well." She retorted with a cheeky grin.

I couldn't help but laugh at that. This was usually a daily occurrence between us. Whenever I was having a bad day, Audrey was there to bring a smile to my face. It was always her being a complete idiot and making me laugh with her dorky conversations. She never failed to bring my mood up. And I was extremely thankful to have someone like her in my life. I wasn't one to have many close friends. The only close friend I had was Jane, who by the way promised to visit in a few days. Other than that, I was pretty much friendship deprived.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Audrey stated.

"I'm not letting you touch my c-nt." I tried steering the conversation from the serious matters.

Audrey chuckled before shaking her head in a disapproving manner. She knew me well enough to know that I was deflecting.

"Don't fight the love Candice." She smiled. "Now stop avoiding my questions. Do you want to talk about it?"

"What makes you think something is bothering me?" I voiced out.

She stood from the chair across my desk and huffed something about me making her stand up. I chuckled at this. Her lazy arse was always complaining.

She walked towards me and took a seat on the desk right in front of me. She rolled my chair towards her and she stared at me intently. I was confused as to what she was doing. And the lack of space between us had begun to make me uncomfortable. Audrey then gave me an assuring smile, which I found myself returning.

Then she reached out and her hands cupped my face. Her thumbs caressed the corners of my mouth and she softly pushed them up.

"For one, you aren't smiling that gorgeous smile of yours." She whispered.

Her hands left my mouth and rested on my eyebrows.

"Your eyebrows are scrunched together while you're deep in thought." She continued to inform me.

Again, her hands left my face and they gripped my hands instead.

"You either fumble with your hands or play with your hair when you're nervous or trying to avoid conversing about certain subjects." Her hazel eyes landed on mine. "That's how I know something is bothering you."

I was speechless.

Audrey was in fact much more observant than I had put her out to be. She knew how to tell when something was bothering me. I didn't know if I should feel special or creeped out by it. I decided to feel special. She cared enough to realize when it was a friend that I needed. Which was pretty much right about now.

And here she was. Ready to be the most attentive person out there.

"Wow." I mouthed silently.

Audrey threw her head back and laughed at my reaction. She then let go of my hands and climbed off of my desk. Returning to her chair across my desk.

"I can read you easily. Call it the hippie instinct. Your bad aura flows out of you like a bad aroma." She grinned at me.

I scoffed and threw a pencil at her. "Stop with the horrible analogies. I emanate everything but a bad aroma."

"Pour it out child. Let your soul roam freely."

"Audrey if you don't shut the hell up I won't tell you anything." I rolled my eyes.

"I'll shut up now." She quickly spoke. "Does it have anything to do with Emerald?"

I sighed. "Yes and no. More about Nancy."

Her eyebrows shot up at this and I could practically see her edging closer towards the desk. Her anticipation was building up and I bit back a smile. It was almost as if Audrey lived off of my drama. Something I had begun to believe.

Not losing anymore time, I began to tell her everything that has been happening since the day we visited the water park. How Emerald mysteriously disappeared and returned two days after. How I had bumped into Nancy at that fast food restaurant. How I had coincidentally seen her at Alex's grave and overheard her confession. How weird Emerald has been acting and how I was planning on moving out as soon as possible.

I didn't want to extend my welcome at Emerald's apartment. I'm sure she didn't mind, but I'd feel more comfortable if I were living on my own. Away from Nancy and Emerald. And any possible drama going on between me and them.

"I'm just really confused. I'm mad at Emerald because of the way she left at the water park. I'm mad at Nancy for being a b-tch and I'm mad at myself because I don't know what to do anymore." I sighed in exasperation.

"Well, has Emerald tried talking to you about what happened at the water park?" Audrey asked me with a serious expression.

"No. She hasn't been talking to me much and I don't know why."

"Maybe you should try talking with her." Audrey suggested. "Then you can mention the fact that you want to move out."

I considered her suggestion and I realized it was a very good idea.

"You're right, I will try talking to her."

"Also, you can always move in with me." Audrey smiled widely.

"Are you being serious right now?" I narrowed my eyes.

"I am. There's nothing wrong with that."

"Besides the fact that you would touch a c-nt to get high off your ass." I joked.

"Yeah, there's that little detail. Other than that you'll be safe." Audrey laughed. "Or I can always help you with apartment hunting."

"I'll keep that in mind. You better not be surprised if I take you up on your offer and move in with you." I warned.

"You'd always be welcome." Audrey winked and stood up.

She waved as she was about to step out of my office.

"Audrey." I called out before she left.

"Yes?"

I smiled. "Thank you."

"Don't mention it shorty!"

The smile remained on my face as I watched her close the door behind her.
